Hey, anyone know what OBD2 protocol the 2005 380 VXR uses. From what i can gather Mitsubishi use their own proprietary standard.

I was thinking about getting one of those ELM327 bluetooth scanners off ebay..

It should work fine - I got one of these and no issues:

Don't waste $23 on a diagnostic scanner, spend $2,300 on a chinese MUT3 instead?
Makes sense to me...

I didn't quote you.
Perhaps i should've said "Don't waste $23 on a diagnostic scanner? Cheapest Chinese MUT3 i can find is $2,300. Makes sense to me..."

By all means post a link for a MUT3 that's better value, i'd be interested.

Thanks for the info, appreciate the effort.
Anyone who has bought a cheap Chinese MUT3 care to point me in the right direction?
I've only managed to find them for over $2,000 and can't justify the cost compared to a $50 bluetooth adapter and Torque ($5 or $10 program from memory).

I also had one of those (from ebay link) and it always worked fine in my 380. Don't know what it was worth as I was given it by a coworker. Definately not as many interactive options as the mut3... but good enough for the price to display many other sensor readings from the engine.

OBD readers are absolutely useless on a 380.

Generic codes via google just doesn't work on a 380.

The cd manual slipstreams into the mut application and gives a complete diagnosis facility.

Of course anyone buying a MUT3 will need the specific model PINS....:)

Yes i did, thank you. The ELM327 scanner and Torque Pro works great, I am mainly using it as a dash cam now. But as Zilo kept saying it is not a replacement for a MUT3 scanner..

I ended up taking my 380 into Mitsubishi Elizabeth to be properly diagnosed and repaired.. Turns out my friend did not install the rear 3 coil packs correctly. This resulted in cylinders 1, 3, 5 misfiring, which then melted the pre-cat. Luckily that was the only damage, an only cost me 700$ to be fixed, plus 80$ for the tow.

Hmm, I missed this one thread. I got mine from totaltooldiagnostics.com. Australian based with local warranty and support and genuine elm327 instead of clones. Yes it cost a little more than eBay Chinese ones but well worth it. I too use torque pro with it.

Sorry to wake a sleeping thread, but I've suddenly taken an interest. lol

Looking to get some basic info out of the ECU on a 2011 Lancer and 2016 Outlander.
