My 98 TF's rear passenger door won't latch shut. The latch mechanism will rotate freely into the shut position but it won't lock in place regardless of lock/child lock status, it just swings back up every time.

Broken? How to fix - bad day for this to happen :tired:

The plastic surround the L-Shaped tension/latching mechanism has degraded away (poor design there Mitsubishi). Will have to put a small rivet through it or something to stop the tension spring sliding off.

Mine did the same thing, I ended up using a rapstrap but you could use a rubber band or something as well, just needs a small amount of tension on it. Don't have any pics sorry, but its pretty self explanatory when you look at the mechanism and have a fiddle with it

I ended up just drilling a groove into the metal to contain the spring and stop it sliding off. Did both rear doors.
