As the title suggests, looking at selling the Rada as I'm looking for a new car...

2003 with 165ks, few blemishes but overall pretty decent condition.

Sony xplod with Bluetooth music and phone.

All GTVi standard specs.

So how much difference in new vehicle trade vs sell private, and how easy to sell privately?
Adelaide area.

Ps Sorry if wrong post section?

Cheers Ben

Most minimum trade in prices are $3,000 here in WA(unsure if it's the same elsewhere) Provided you car's in great condition with a decent service history, you'll be able to make that.

I think most car dealers will only accept it if you agree to a low trade in amount, as they know the car has the potential to turn into dead stock that sits on the lot for months on end. Private, probably close to $5,500 I reckon. However, it could be on the market for a while if you go privately. If it were me, I would trade it in and make it someone else's issue to sell.

2-3k trade if that, maybe 500 or 1000 extra if you are willing to do it privately, 6 cyl cars of this vintage are dime a dozen. I couldn't be bothered waiting around all weekend for idiots to not turn up when they say they will.

That ultimately depends on the value of the car he's purchasing. On a $10,000+ car perhaps (and its asking price will likely be inflated to absorb the minimum trade).
Anything less than a $10,000 purchase, I doubt he'll get $3000 for it. On a $5000 car, you'd be hard pressed getting $1500-2000 for it.
Also depending on the dealer's typical stock, they may keep on the lot to sell, or flog it off to the auctions. The trade price will reflect this.

You can get a decent KL/KW GTVi in SA for $4-5k, and that's for one with mint paint and service history.

I personally would go for sale via private sale, trade in value will be nothing.

Very true. I just gave the amount I see advertised at most car lots/dealers

Hey guys, thanks for your replies...

Ended up trading in, got $2k trade on a NP300 Navara ST.

Now Mitsi-less..... She was a good car but the Navara is the first brand-new car I've ever bought and very happy with it. Certainly doesn't have the get-up-and-go of the Rada!!

Ah another great car given away on a trade for a toorak tractor...

Bit of an assumption don't you think?

Yeah agreed. Given what it'd ultimately sell for I think the $2k trade-in is pretty reasonable.

Traded my 2005 GTVi AWD February, 2015 with minimal blemishes, 18" mags, extractors, security, 380 cams, SKR tune, 380 rotors, DRLs, etc etc for $3000 for a brand new NX Pajero GLS. Should have gone a Pajero with a lot more oomph unless you wanted a dual cab ute.

A Navara doesn't really cut it as a Toorak tractor

Bit of an assumption, eh? ;)

Needed a new vehicle to maximise tax reduction. Could've gone a Paj, but the Navara is exceptional value - 140kw / 450nm 2.3l 7sp auto sipping on claimed 7.0l/200kms (I'm seeing 8.0 average round town after 400kms on a 600km motor - not broken in) and almost $10k less than NX GLS drive away price.

With the run out options, I got a $55k + on roads vehicle for $43k drive away, less trade. So I'm pretty happy.

5 seats in comfort and versatility to carry a load with exceptional fuel consumption. Why wouldn't I, really?

Been great being part of the forum, heaps of valuable info on here and some very helpful people. Cheers for that over the past few years!

The price is right... that should get snapped up pretty quickly.

Yup - a luxury 3rd gen with it's paint still intact and a relatively low number of kilometres? Might even find its way back to AMC before you know it lol

Yeah, to be honest surprised they advertised so low so quickly. Thought 3.5k is on the money privately so 4K dealer with 12mth warranty? Good deal I think.
Especially since I got 2k trade.

Roof is showing first signs of bubbles - I'm talking very small patch of maybe 50x50mm in one spot. A few other dings but nothing too obvious.

They haven't advertised the fact it has Bluetooth and electric brake controller either.

Only other thing is, despite me spending $1500 on timing belt kit, tensioner and water pump about 6 months ago, has a bit of a rattle. Thinking the mechanic didn't do the tensioner properly.

Besides that, great car for the money. Someone should be very happy with the purchase. I was only the second real owner (first was Mitsi dealership exec car).
