Hi all, firstly thanks for allowing me to join Your club, yes another newby. just bought my first Magna and love it, but still coming to grips with the new computer control having driven older cars like Chev's & Nissan 4x4's and its hard to change after 70 odd years, have picked up many tips from other members before joining. My first "Q" is when I start the car and the computer doe's it's thing I drive it for between 2mins and 5 mins I get a beep, no warning on the display. I thought at first it was the speed alert so I switched it off, still the same. Any idea's without going to a dealer would help.
Hope that in the future I may be able to give some input to the club rather than milk it.

I wasn't aware these cars beeped for anything other than the speed alert.
Is there climate control? I know that beeps at 0 degrees to warn that there may be ice on the road. Perhaps your sensor is not working and the climate control read 0 degrees?

It also beeps when the driving hours reach 19 hours 55 minutes without the trip computer being reset.
OP, if you haven't already, reset your trip computer by pressing down the mode button for more than two seconds (you will hear three beeps in quick succession). Press mode again, cycle through the displays and if any of them don't read zero, reset it again. Reassess after that.

have reset the computer when I fill up, but may not have done it correctly so will follow your instructions and do it again. I know that the previous owner fitted an after market radio and I fitted a dash cam and reversing camera. Not sure if these are interfering with the system.

OK, cool, that's fine. I thought perhaps it was staying in configuration mode (eg. after the battery is disconnected for a few seconds) where it asks for the engine size and body type. If it was staying in that mode it could have indicated a potential cause of the beeping. I'm with ammerty on this one, most likely trip computer is maxed out. The max time varies between models, I think the later models (eg TJ) had a longer max time, like 99:55 hours or something like it.

19:55 for TJs

None of those should affect the trip computer

Hi ammerty, followed your instructions to the latter and found that the sleep alert was active, so I switched that off, everything else was at zero, it may have fixed it ?.
thanks to all for the input

Hi again ammerty, thought that your last suggestion was going to fix the problem, which by the way doesn't interfere with the running of the vehicle, just annoying not knowing what it is, so looks like a Mitsi dealer or an auto spark with a "Mut 2" reader to find out, I am not proficient enough to find out if it is a sensor that may be faulty or not. Possibly find out soon. Priced a "Mut 2" overseas and got the fright at the prices, so I will leave that one alone, again thanks all.

I'd disconnect the aftermarket headunit for a day and see what happens. If every field of the trip computer has been reset, plus the speed alert and driver rest alarm are turned off, that's the only thing it could be.
What model headunit (exactly) is it?

It has got an aftermarket bluetooth phone kit hidding up under the dash. My old nokie CK 7w will make a beep about a minute after you start the car if the phone isnt around to connect. Try starting the car and staying parked to see if you get the noise after a few minutes or is it just when you drive.??
The nokia bluetooth kit is all under the dash with only a little aswer button sticking out to hit to answer and hangup. might be worth pocking your head around under the dash to see if there is any aftermarket stuff around. Other thing too if it has a aftermarket radio leave it off to make sure it not coming out of there.

What unit is it OP?
Some Nav units will beep as you approach a train line crossing. Disconnect the head unit and see how it goes

Hi flyboy, the head unit is a Sony - cdx, but I also have a h/free " Uniden unit" installed. I don't use the radio much so I may pull the fuse on it and see what happens as the sound that I am hearing seems to come from the radio area ( i think ) and not the H/fee as it is not always switched on and above my head. I will try the radio first and see what happens. Thanks once more

well at last , peace off mind pulled the fuse for the radio and isolated it, but in doing so i lost my fuel gauge and mileage reading The result no more annoying beep and i presume it is the radio causing the noise so next step look at the wiring on the radio side of things and put the fuse back.
Thanks to all that had input.

So you have eliminated it to two things now. Radio or Trip Meter(computer). Sounds like radio is wired wrong its the fused is effecting you trip meter and fuel gauge. Radio should be on its own fuse..

If the beep is coming from the trip meter trying to get your attention to set it correctly, it may be it loses its settings when the car is off.
Usually it is one of the fuses in the yellow square in the fuse box under the bonnet that has blown. It controls a few other things too, like the radio and interior light.
Does your interior light work and does the radio retain its station settings when the car is switched off?
FYI: Radio has 2 power connections, one permanent to retain station settings, the other powers on with key in the ignition on ACC or car running, for main power. There may be a third to run a power aerial.
