i'm bored with the KL's standard wheels and after fitting the new dampers the handling seems ok and I dont feel any urgent need to put lower profile wheels/tyres on the car, especially as the tyres still have a ways to go. So, I'm considering a snazzy set of new shiny 16” wheels.

The standard wheels just seem ugly, with dull grey metal finish and inelegant spoke pattern that look a bit like Wolverines claws, lol My old KH wheels seem much better looking in comparison.
Anyhow, I'm thinking about a nice silver finish with better looking spokes, maybe 10 in a symetrical radial pattern. I like shiny clean, bright looking metal.

Couple of questions come up; do the AWD's require a particular type of wheel?
What kind of wheel do I need to consider, I assume "alloy", but anything in particular to be aware of?

And can someone please help me to understand these measures and what is best for a KL.
I think the standard wheels are not wide enough?
Size = 16x6.5 Front and Rear
Wheel fitment = 5⁄114.3
Offset = 42

I'll do some research but any help from someone who knows would be great.

Also, if anyone thinks I should stick with the original please tell me why you do.
I'm open to keeping them if people can convinvce me they're best for now.

Pic of my standard wheel attached.
Looks shiny in the pic, but its more grey.

Standard wheel size is 16x6. You need at least 6.5 and preferably 7" wide. Offset is +46

If you are not happy with the finish then cheaper to get them painted etc.

If you go wider wheel but still keeping the same width tyres of 215 then offset should stay the same. If you plan to put wider tyres on later then reduce the offset. However, wider wheels in the 16" diameter won't meet the minimum load rating and would be too small in overall diameter. Standard aftermarket 16" tyres are 225/50R16 which is 33mm smaller in overall diameter. 225/55R16, if available would be better but would be expensive as they are not a common size. 235/55R16 would be even better but again would be expensive.

I added the CJ Lancer 10 spoke rims on my KJ2.
They really suit the car nicely I think and are 6.5" wide.

If I had the option I'd likely go 16X8 to use 225/55/16 tyres however that size rim generally only comes in stupid designs and offsets (for these hellaflush enthusiasts).

Magnas have quite a high load rating for wheels and tyres, I'd very much doubt the lancer wheels are rated to the same level ie: possible wheel failure and/or illegal

How would I check this?

Wheel weight ratings should be stamped on the inside of the spokes.

I would be sticking with an OEM Magna/Verada/380 wheel. Aftermarket wheels often look a bit dicky in a small size - on a Magna they only tend to look good at 18" or above.

I realise you want to stick with 16", but I think a set of either KJ GTVi or 380 GT wheels (each at 17x7") with some 225/50/17 tyres would look the business. The marginally wider rim and tyre would help aesthetics and handling too. The decrease in ride quality would be marginal at best.

I've just bought a set of 380 SX Series 2 wheels for my TW VRX. I think they suit the whole KL/KW shape very well, especially with the VRX kit I've got.

If I were you, maybe 380 GT/GTL wheels?

I got them for $250+$50 postage from Vic to WA. 3/4 were great, one had a fair bit of curb rash
