I finally had the Berklee muffler fitted last week & can vouch they are a "great value for money mod". I only have the K & N filter with the Galant intake, lower resonator mod & engine cover taken off but this surpasses those easily. The muffler is quiet as well with no drone on long trips I just drove the car 2000km in 2 weeks on the highway and I am impressed you notice the difference when overtaking. I did not notice a difference in fuel economy though?

Hi. I had this muffler on my (now gone) 380 years ago, too. It is quiet when new, and I was a bit disappointed as I wanted a bit more noise... but when it gets older it also gets louder. Later mine had a really nice note to it (maybe after a year or so). I had the same mods as you, but not the lower resonator (couldn't get at it). In my opinion it is the best value mod on the car.

+1 to what Grubco said.

I've got a Supercat muffler - OEM size but straight through. Agree with what you've said. I didn't notice any difference in fuel economy either.
I tried a variety of exhaust systems, spent thousands on trial and error then settled on a twin system from the K-frame back using two stock mufflers, hotdogs and crossover pipe as per the TMR380 spec.

Very interesting read. In approximately 2 weeks time I'm taking my car in to get my exhaust system done. I've asked for a cat-back system and then from the rear axle splits into to two pipes exiting either side at the rear of the car. Some say I don't need a cat-back for the 380 as the exhaust is already free flowing, so just change the rear muffler. Others say the cat-back is a good option for performance and sound. Honestly I'm not full bottle on exhaust systems so I'll probably go with what ever the shop recommends. Either way I'm looking forward to it.:woot:
You won't get any performance gains.
Plenty of drone heading your way...

On the cost -vs- performance sale I wouldn't bother with a catback (assuming you mean from the dummy cat backwards). Any performance gains would be negligible at best.
I'd be a little wary about what the shop recommends too - there's a fair few cars that would benefit from a catback exhaust, but Magnas/380s aren't one of them.

Thank you, really really appreciate the feed back. I think I'll go with an axle back then as I am starting to see the same answers. The shop I am considering going to didn't suggested it but they didn't say I wouldn't bother either. It was another place that actually asked what I wanted to achieve. If I'm honest I'm after a little more performance, nothing crazy and a nice deep throaty sound. More than happy with how my 380 is at the moment. Just want to add a lille more fun to my driving. Definitely don't want drone though as my wife and I like to drive to Albany occasionally. 6hrs of exhaust drone, no thanks.

My experience is similar to zilo's, I tried about a dozen different exhaust and muffler set-ups on my 380, the last few involving a split/dual system from just behind the fuel tank.
After all that mucking about and expense the best sound - deeper note, nice burble at idle, no drone, quiet cruise - was a simple single Berklee BS0655 with everything else dead stock.
If you decide to go with a dual system then from my experience twin Berklees may not work (they sounded shite on my car) and twin stock mufflers may be better. The only reason to go with a dual system is looks, it cannot and will not improve performance or exhaust note.

Wow, really best sound from a single Berklee and the rest stock. Wouldn't have picked that.
I wanted the dual system bit for looks only without a doubt. I was hoping though that I could get some improvement (even just enough to slightly notice) from some sort of exhaust/muffler change. It's funny though, I thought I had a reasonably clear idea of what I was going to get but after hearing from everyone I'm not so sure now. Might have to do a bit more Googling starting with the Berklee BS0655 you mentioned.

Again, I've got a Supercat rather than a Berklee, but my Supercat is the same size as the OEM muffler (I've had both off the car and compared). I do a lot of highway driving and there's no drone - just a nice note when you put the foot down. Very happy with it even just for this alone.

Just want to thank everyone for the advice. I took your advice and instead of getting the cat-back with the twin tail pipes etc I was going to get before, I had just the rear muffler changed after work today. He (the guy at the exhaust place) showed me 2 mufflers (no idea of brand or anything) but one was fairly huge and other a bit smaller than the OEM one. Anyway, it was roughly fitted so I could hear the difference between them both and I picked the smaller one. The bloke put it on, even put on a tail pipe very similar to the standard oval shaped VRX tail pipe. Now it has this deep v8 like rumble and growl but is fairly quiet while just pottering down the road. Seriously, by the time I drove home my cheeks were sore from smiling so much. Thanks everyone.

lol good to see you're happy.
I'm looking at doing the same so this thread is perfect timing for me.

I have Zilo s exhaust I love it very subtle at idle to 3k then roars all the way to WOT
Thanks Zilo for the R&D
If your around I'm looking at AFR gauges and assuming the bung upstream of the to cats is where you mounted the wideband
Any recommendations on which on to purchase
Looking at the Inovate MTX-L

I like it because there is no drone or excessive noise but you pick up a some power & a little fuel economy. Nothing worse than a loud exhaust at low revs. In saying that I am middle aged.
