Sometimes our aircon blows cold and sometimes it doesn't. Firstly noticed that it was taking around 5 - 10 mins to blow cool. Then it might stay cold or go to vent after no set period of time. Local Canberra Repco garage completed a full service and reset it but still has the same problem and they don't know what to try next.

Any ideas on what could be the problem? It's a series iii GT with climate control. I have now booked it into the auto elec guy that does the local Mitsubishi dealerships aircon jobs. He said when I booked that he hasn't seen this prob on a 380 yet.

Thx vlad. I have been on this forum for a while but had to sign up again as the old user id wouldn't work. We have the 2007 380 GT iii with 154kms and our mighty Magna, a 1997 Solara with 290kms.

I had a similar problem a couple of weeks ago.
It started with the recirculating switch turning itself on and not allowing me to switch it off.
The next day it worked ok on the drive to work.
Coming home the aircon stopped working and the recirculating switched on again, both switches were illuminated but not working and would not switch off.
Checked and found engine to be running hot due to a faulty thermostat.
Changed thermostat and has been fine since.

What is your other user name so I can merge the 2 accounts

AC can be over-gassed, faulty switch or even ECU. Although test may take a while and cost you any reasonable ac guy should be able to diagnose

The 380 has been checked out by an auto electrician/ac guy (I'm no mech) who says there's a prob with the ECU where it is not send a signal to the relay to turn on the ac. Does this make sense?
Says that they will need to send the ECU to a mob in QLD to be repaired. They haven't come across this before on a 380 but have seen the problem in many Astra's.
He's also going to speak with an experienced Mitsub workshop foreman and also get a price on a new ECU and get back to me with the best option.
I'll report back later.

Get in contact with Mal, he should have an ac ECU from a scrap car.

Guys, thought I'd let you know that the problem ended up being the ECU, which has now been replaced and all running fine now. Thanks for your help here on the forum.

Odd but my Series 2 SX done the exact same thing a couple of times as a pre cursor to a thermostat failure.
