Hey guys going to do a install this weekend on my TJ, just wondering where the best place to run the RCA's and power cable's was? I was thinking of taking out the back seat and center compartment and just running the RCA's up the middle, and then running the power cable, 4 gauge! down one of the side's.

Oh and any tips on things to look outfor when removing any necessary seats etc would be usefull as I havnt done it on my precious magna before!!!!!

i ran them down the sides in my TH without a problem.. 2 sets of rcas, and 4 guage cable down the other side.. plastic door guards clip off easily, and with the help of a bent coathanger you can feed them thru between the seats into the boot (behind the carpet) without having to remove the backseat. Very quick and easy.

Thanks also anyone know if the whole in the firewall for cables is big enough to squeeze a bit of 4 gauge through, or where abouts the whole is?

I ran RCAs and power down the sides of the car in the factory wiring ducts too in my TJ. Easy as pie.

I actually removed the back seat (both bench and backrest) to feed my cables through to the boot.

As for the firewall.. I punched a hole through the rubber grommet in the engine bay and fed the power cable down through that to come out in the passenger foot-well.. this was based on someone else's (from this forum) guide on how to do it. Worked well and was fairly easy. I think you'd have a hard time getting the power cable to go through one of the grommets in the same way the factory wiring does just cos of how it bends and how the factory wiring is bound together. I tried but gave up early cos I'm lazy :D

cut a hole thru the steering column grommet..

Only problem I'd have with that is that you're on the wrong side of the engine bay with respect to the battery.

There is nothing wrong with running a power cable across the firewall champ. Just make sure it's tied down. :)

Not saying there is, just that there's another grommet half a meter further along the firewall on the same side as the battery :D Actually, there's a sheet of sound-deadening/fire-proofing material on the engine-bay side of the firewall that's you can run behind which is great for keeping the power cable out of the way of any of the mechanicals.

Be careful with the grommets in the firewall, if some arent sealed up correctly afterwards water will get in your car!! (Ive had this happen....)

I actually ran the cables thru the top of the wheel arch from the bonet into the passenger floor.. turns out a few cables are wired down thru there as well. Was a bit tricky, but worked out fine.

Lucky for me somebody had drilled a gaping big hole where my clutch pedal was supposed to go and filled it up with silastic :doubt:

The only rule to remember is to keep your power cable well away from your RCA line cables. Usually you would run power on one side and RCA on the other... However now i run power on one side and RCA through the middle, however you need to take out the back seat to do this.
