Is Bridgestone still doing the 4 for 3 deal? Fitted a set of ecopia to wife's Outlander and she is happy with it.

I just recently bought them for my Magna TP, as a replacement for its old age tyres (with 85% plus thread on them!).
Also bought the serenity plus for the verada at the same time (both with the 4 for 3 deal).

I find them just fine for typical "road use" (and quite cheap for a good brand).

My third gen had Supercats when I bought it.

They were about 50% worn, but had poor grip and were VERY noisy on 17" rims with King Lows.

I think they were reasonably old, and being a cheaper compound - the rubber had gone hard due to age.

They are a budget tyre for a reason. Get some Serenity Plus, or T001 instead would be my advice.

I hope people don't come to the sudden realisation (like I did!) that tires expire with age as well as thread wear.
Manufacturers say the tyre is old and due for replacement after 6 years, regardless of wear.
Probably a bit of an underestimate to cover their backs, so maybe stretch it to 8 years and replace.
Won't tell you how old the tyres were on my car's (search AMC and you will find out!).

Tyres have the date of manufacturer stamped on the side wall, basically a 4 digit code with the week of the year and the last 2 digits of the year. Thus 1214 will mean made in the 12th week of 2014. One should always check the manufacturing date to make sure tyre shops don't fit old tyres, especially during sales. From memory, they cannot sell tyres older than 5 years.

The spare tyre in my sigma was so old it predated the code for that date stamp (was only over 34 years old and still looked good!).

There's lots of Korean and Chinese tyres that are basically licensed copies of the big brands which will be cheaper, the usual catch is that they don't wear nearly as well and generally aren't quite as grippy but adequate for a shopping trolley car, so if you are on a tight budget look for a no-name brand with a tread pattern that is similar and be prepared to replace them sooner, otherwise Bridgestones have always been a reliable choice for me, and wear very well.

I put some Supercats on the front of my wife's Hyundai I30. Wet weather grip is terrible. Never again. Lucky she drives very sedately.

I have Supercats (front and rear) and wet weather grip feels fine on suburban roads.
Its very subjective - but if terrible why risk it with the wife!

The defect notice relates only to supercat tyres of size 215/60R16 95V.
If you had those fitted then apparently they will be replaced free of charge.

Can't really say that supercat tyres aren't what they used to be based on this particular defect notice.
I'd worry if there was a defect across all supercat tyre sizes.

Bridgestone Supercat tyres used to be a premium tyre back in the 1980's and 1990's, the ones now are made in Thailand, I'm sure the ones years ago weren't

Okay,
By implication, the statement "they aren't what they used to be" is informing that the current supercat tyres are inferior to the ones made in the past.
The defect notice and the fact that they are made in Thailand are neither supportive or unsupportive of that implication.

Some AMC members don't like them because in their perception they don't have good wet grip are noisy.
Some AMC members like them because in their perception they do have good wet grip and are quiet.
These kind of opinions are purely subjective and say very little about the quality (or lack thereof) of these tyres.

IMHO:
The supercat tyre is a budget tyre distributed by a reputable and very large tyre manufacturer.
For the same cost you could buy an unknown brand chinese made budget tyre, but then when you weigh in that unproven reputation why would you make that choice.
For the intended purpose of normal suburban driving, these tyres are fine and are properly warranted (ie see the defect notice).

Pay more and you get tyres with features that better suit a particular driving requirement (touring, of road, crazy grip etc etc).

I found supercat tyres to be good value for money tyres, not noisy when compared to blue streak.

The guys at Bridgestone so this was the first time they tried Thailland for tyres.
