I found a open hole on transfer case or centre diff while cleaning. Can anyone tell me what is missing?
Is it missing bolt, rubber cape or hose? (please see the attached picture)

My best guess: Nothing missing.
There are a few blind holes in the gearbox casings not used for anything.
Probe it with a screwdriver to see how deep it is or get a really close up look at it, if it is not threaded and it is dirty like the rest of the gearbox, it has always been like that.
If there was something missing like a breather pipe, there'd be a massive oil stain around the hole anyway.
Somebody with an AWD might confirm/deny what I just said.

There is something missing otherwise there should not be mark around the hole.

It's the breather vent/cover. I'd get a new one.

Order one in from admin: MITSFIX - He is a Mitsubishi wrecker & new/used parts stockist who posts small items Australia wide (Postage to NZ should be possible with Mitsfix).

I found the part at Mitsubishi dealer. It is a breather case and cost $13.
Thank you all of you for sharing information.

Can you take a photo of this breather?
I have one on my 380 manual gearbox which is damaged and I'd like to replace, but I don't know if they just push in or if replacing it is more involved.

Okay thanks.
Pulled out my damaged one - part number is MD746523 - transfer case breather.
I don't think the hole chewed in it by a rodent is a big deal, but probably going to replace it anyway to keep any dust out.
Ill see if the dealer has one in stock, common part with Lancers apparently. It's a real pig to get back in, so little access to get the strength and angles right to get it popped back in. Would be easier to replace if I removed the strut brace and battery.
