Hi all just wondering what is involved in this swap, dual tip to single tip. Any issues with the mountings? Is it just bolt on or is there welding? Does it fit with the standard rear bumper?
Cheers
Paul
Note this a question from NZ and we (I believe) only ran 1 model AWD at any one time.

Your best bet is to find an AWD GTVi single outlet muffler which on my TL AWD was a bolt on with no mods at all.
I happened to find one in very good condition after lots of looking from a wrecker in Ingleburn NSW for $100 - cash on pick up.
Your next best option will be an AWD VRX muffler(not FWD) - which will bolt on once the straight tip is changed to a downward facing tip - so, a small amount of welding is involved.
I just checked the online listings for:
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/MITSUBISHI-MAGNA-MUFFLER-TL-3-5-LTR-PETROL-AUTO-AWD-06-03-08-05-/281877861745?hash=item41a13ad571:g:leQAAOSw7FRWZQl x
where I got mine from
and for Mitsfix.
Neither are listing what you need at the moment.
Both are only showing AWD dual outlet - not single.
I would suggest that it will be somewhat difficult to find a 100% bolt on unit unless you are lucky.
But start looking for Mitsubishi Verada GTVi AWD wrecking.
Whilst I was underneath fitting the replacement muffler I found a small leak in the main pipe which I was able to fix myself with the help of some freebies from my nearest exhaust shop.
I recommend everyone check the section of pipe just in front of the rear muffler join. The welded seam, which is mostly on the top of the pipe seems to have a tendency to corrode.
I noticed the occasional tendency for the engine to stall at idle, which went away after fixing the leak.
Or a TJ/TL AWD Sports. The bolt on includes the section of pipe from the muffler to the center resonator. AWD go under the diff and FWDs go over the upper control arms. The muffler itself isn't a bolt-on.

There might be some confusion here.
(but not for me as I've actually done the job so my knowledge is first hand and quite recent)
My replacement AWD GTVi muffler was a bolt on to my TL AWD.
Nothing else was needed(except the very small piece of pipe to fix the leak, but that is a separate issue) .
You would be correct in saying that an AWD Sports (or AWD VR) muffler would fit, once again without extra pipework.
But as I said before, I believe your chances of finding the correct part is rather small.....unless you are prepared to wait a while.
And the longer you wait, the more corroded they will become.
You are probably better off just going to the exhaust shop and getting a new muffler fitted.
@ Fiat; or you could just get one of these: http://www.magnaflow.com/products?partnumber=14586
I've got this fitted to my AWD & there are a few other members who have also.
It's virtually the same dimensions & 2.5" offset/centre configuration as a stock magna/verada AWD rear muffler, but it's polished stainless & a straight through design.
You just get an exhaust shop to weld on the hangers & rear flange pipe off the old unit and fit a short downward facing tip so it doesn't hit up against the rear bumper.
Awesome looks & way better sound with out being too loud (well within legal limits) and gives a healthy power increase as it flows better than stock baffled type muffler.
