Any advice re rocker cover gasket brands is appreciated.
I'm assuming that just like oils aint oils, gaskets aint gaskets either!
Does anyone have a recommendation re brands of gaskets?
Genuine spark plug rings are extremely costly however, so I would also like to hear from someone who can recommend a brand / supplier for these also.
Can get no-name brand gaskets and rubbers (to do both sides) for $50 delivered from fleabay, but wondering if I may be buying more trouble than good.

Check prices on Rockauto.com, a US website.

Diamante 2001 or so, 3.5L engine is the model to look for.

Different makes and types of rocker gaskets available, there is one with metal inserts in the bolt holes, theory being you can't overtighten those if you don't have a torque wrench that goes down to 3.5 Nm accurately. Obviously you need 2 kits, each containing gasket and 3 plug tube seals.

Check for spark plugs, much cheaper.

FedEx delivery is expensive, but gets to your front door inside a week.

Parts still end up costing you only half of the local prices.

EDIT: Also a good source for lightweight items like fuel and air filters, cam belt, ancillary drive belts, etc, and heavy bits that are very expensive locally like full cam belt + idlers + water pump + hydraulic tensioner kits.
Heavy parts like oil filters, alternator, starter motor probably not worth importing due to freight charges.

Also check prices at Mitsfix and local parts suppliers, and decide where to buy. Avoid a dealer, but check their prices anyway. Some of their stock is really old and of dubious quality (due to age). Got caught out with perished drive shaft boots once. Didn't last 6 months.

Just get 'em from our own forum supplier, Mal/MitsFix/Mad Magna, see here:

$40 each side, so just a little more than those other ones on Fleabay, but worth the extra for the peace of mind that you are getting the real deal.

We also do GENUINE kits, about 97 for both banks. While the permaseal are ok, nothing beats the genuine ones

Thanks Mal, that's good to know you do genuine ones as well. The Permaseals have been fine on my third gen - but I'd probably prefer to use genuine wherever I can.

380 rear plugs are due soon... So I might do the seals as a preventative measure at the same time.

It's one good thing about buying from a Mitsi specialist who uses these parts every day - you know they won't be selling any aftermarket stuff which isn't up to the job. Go into Repco or supercheap - and who knows what crap they're selling.

Better off using quality parts. The rocker cover gaskets and tube seals installed in the factory last for 100,000 + Km, you'd be upset if a replacement set didn't go that distance.

the best gaskets won't work if the covers are bent - and they often are due to trying to over tightening when they start to leak - make sure the bolt holes are not bent down - you may need to do some panel beating to raise them back to a level where the gasket will fit properly. Otherwise the leaks will be back.

And whatever you do, DO NOT USE SILICONE or anything else on the gaskets. You may get away with it, but if you have slightly a thicker layer of goo in one place, you will get a leak somewhere else. The original design used no extra sealants, neither should you. I had a "mechanic" overhaul my Pajero. He didn't clean out the intake manifold and a bit of crap was in there when it was started. Loud noises etc. I drove it home - 3 km. When a friend stripped the engine down, 3 of the spark plugs had oil in the tubes. This was with new gaskets fitted by the "mechanic". There was silicone everywhere. It took ages to clean up and probably even then it probably wasn't cleaned enough.
