Hi All
I am trying to help a mate get his magna sorted, its got a few problems.
Firstly, it idles quite rough and feels under powered. I have changed all the plugs which were very old and it certainly is running better. however it still has the following faults:
-22 Crank Angle Sensor
-23 Top Dead Centre Senor
Are these common faults and are there any know fixes??

Secondly, the fans don't seem to kick in when the car is warmed up. I have already checked the relays and they are fine.
If I remove the connector on top of the sensor, both fans kick in straight away.
Would this suggest that the temp sensor is faulty??

any help would be much appreciated

Not common at all, and the only known fix - if they are 'real' errors, is to replace the components involved.
Crank angle sensor is behind the cam belt cover, TDC sensor is inside the distributor. Perhaps check the wiring plugs to those components?

If these are accurately reported errors, then in theory the car shouldn't run at all, or fail to restart once the error appears. Have you tried clearing them, and trying to read the codes again?

Check the ECU itself for contamination by coolant leaks, these may be spurious errors caused by coolant contamination.

Fans normally don't kick in until the car is hot, ie after a drive and idling for a few minutes afterwards, or when the A/C is turned on. If no joy, it may be related to the above suspected ECU problem.

thanks for quick reply mate. yes I have tried clearing and the faults reappear again after the car has been started and left idling for about 3-5 seconds. I have checked the wiring, but will recheck and also check the ECU.
On the fan issue, they don't kick in even when car is hot, that is want pointed me towards temp sensor. just not sure if there is anything else I need to consider and I don't want to replace the sensor just for the sake of it. I might check the resistance across it when cold and then hot. But im not sure what reading I should expect to get....?

Could be that the timing belt is installed wrongly as the error codes indicate a top of engine (ie: cams) and bottom of engine (crank) - so before replacing anything remove the cam belt covers and make sure the timing marks all line up.
