What are the defects?
The fitted flange head bolts may loosen in use.
What are the hazards?
If the bolts become loose, the towbar can become detached from the vehicle creating a safety hazard to the occupants and other parties.
No need to panic, just locate said bolts and check tightness.
See dealer ASAP, probably add some loctite to the threads of said bolts. lol
Note the 'in use' specifier, obviously not a problem if the towbar doesn't get used. lol
Nice to see Mitsu jumps on problems like this though.
Meh, another day, another recall for a car made in Thailand. The Triton, Pajero Sport, formerly known as Challenger and not to be mistaken for a Pajero, Ford Everest, Ranger, Mazda BT-50, Toyota Hilux (those made in Thailand) to name a few...

Good to know manufacturers recall their cars. Back in the old days you could crash your Ford Pinto and be burned alive and no one did anything for ages.
Cars are pretty good these days really.

Towbars are installed locally, so don't blame Thai workers. lol

i think its a good thing that manufacturers dont take any chances now and issue a recall, about time.... Failed wave spring anyone?

Its one thing to issue a recall but an entirely different thing to wait up to a year for the issue to be rectified. My father is still waiting for his Rav4 to be fixed.

Regardless, the problem was acknowledged......

Yep. Still waiting to get the message to come in and get the passenger side airbag changed over on the CH Lancer.
Who can I sue if it goes off and sprays shrapnel everywhere? Blood is so hard to clean off headliners . . .

Was a towbar manufacture issue. They were saying for a period of time to use loctite 263 on the threads with any towbar install . They then stolled all towbars until the cars on the road were sorted

Hey, enough of that, Mits call the Pajero Sport a Pajero Sport and according to them is NOT a Challenger....how dare you agree with me on this (as I think is just a rebadged Challenger with a price hike)

You really could call it a BITSRMISSING then
Mods or admins, I reckon you should create a separate sub-section for the Pajero Sport or relabel the Triton with Triton/Challenger/Pajero Sport. The Pajero is an entirely different car to the Pajero Sport which is just a Challenger renamed to be inline with the rest of the world.

Damn cheeky though. The real Pajero is dead, and the price on the new-but-fake Pajero makes my eyes water. I can buy 2 Outlanders for that money, or 2.5 Lancers! (or 1 gazzilion third gens. lol)
I've seen a couple of the current models on the road lately, but can't as yet tell the difference between an ASX, Outlander or Challenger. Takes time, I guess.
Them there DRLs are too bright, by the way, blinding even in daylight. lol
The real Pajero is not dead. The development is just put on hold. The Pajero Sport AKA Challenger is an entirely different car. We are comparing monocoque chassis with independent front and rear suspensions on the Pajero with proven all terrain capability with an uncomfortable ute based SUV with ladder rail chassis and live rear axel. Like the Outlander, the Pajero Sport does not even have rear A/C vents, let alone a rear A/C unit. Yes it has modern safety features likes those in the Outlander but that was more to appease the general public.

The base Outlander is just a Lancer mechanically, with an oversized body (*). If the Challenger is similar, it is definitely NOT a "Pajero anything" and nowhere as competent as a proper Pajero for those who need the features of a true 4 X 4.
(*) No delusions here - the Outlander is a second rate vehicle compared to a Pajero, but it combines the fuel economy of the Lancer with the interior space of a third gen wagon, and mine is never likely to go off bitumen. So it will suit me fine - when I get it, still waiting. Only 7 weeks to go. grrrrr.
Not just mechanically. In fact they share a lot of exterior and interior components. Stepping from a Lancer into an Outlander or vice versa and you would think you were in the same car, just the elevation has changed.
The Pajero Sport has the same MATT tech as in the Pajero but is in the same league as Toyota Fortuna, Ford Everest, Isuzu MU-X and the upcoming Nissan Navara based SUV. These are all ute based. The thing is, the Pajero Sport does not come in 7 seats. So if Mitsubishi stops the Pajero then the only SUV with 7 seats will be the smaller Outlander.
Anyhow, enough ranting on as it is getting out off topic.
