Hi all,
The trip computer display in my wife's TJ Advance has suddenly gone blank yesterday. Any suggestions as to what might be the problem.
Also, the radio has been playing up for a while, it becomes stuck on whatever station it was tuned to and will not respond to any controls - can't change the volume, station etc., then after a couple of days it will come good again. This has been happening intermittently for the past few months, very frustrating if there is crap music playing as the only way to turn it off is to turn off the ignition.
Any suggestions?
Cheers
Mike

Pull the radio out and see if things go back to normal.

The OEM stereo in my TJ did this a couple of years ago, I was never able to find the problem so just replaced it. Took a while to find one with the aerial wire and phone mute but they are out there. Don't know if it's related to the trip display though.

I don't think they are related as the radio has been playing up for a while. Really hoping for some advice on the trip display 'cos the fuel gauge stopped working a couple of years ago and she has been relying on the trip meter to tell her when to fill up again, so she is flying a bit blind at the moment.

Nothing obvious in the circuit diagram, check all fuses particularly the 10A and 15A fuses in the relay box under the bonnet and in the junction box (fuses near driver's foot).

I'll check them on the weekend.

Besides the dedicated fuse 10 and fuse 11 mentioned above and fuse 2 (taillight relay), there is also a 10A fuse number 13 and a 10A multi-purpose fuse 6 (both in the junction block, that is, in the cabin fuse box).

The symbols on the engine bay fuse cover and the interior fuse cover are not very informative and pretty useless in fault finding.
Last resort is to pull the fuses out, one by one, and visually inspect & check each one with multimeter before putting it back in. Repeat until you find a blown one.
OK. The following are the fuses for centre display and radio etc:
Dedicated fuses in relay and fuse box in engine bay:

Fuse #2: 10A red fuse: Illumination circuit for various switches and displays:
Fuse #9: 20A yellow fuse: Audio circuit
Fuse #11: 15A red fuse: TC, ECU, A/C, centre display, ABS, SRS, CC, BEM, combination meter, room illumination etc etc. If this fuse is blown, you will know about it.
Multipurpose fuses in junction box in the cabin:

Fuse #6: 10A red fuse: Audio, CC, centre display, combination meter, power antenna
Fuse #11: 15A blue: Audio, ignition cylinder lamp, power antenna, etc
Fuse #13: 10A red fuse: ABS, wiper motor, analog meter, centre display etc

hey Vlad....has you got a list of all the fuses in both boxes and what runs off them ?
cheers
Ya. At work though. Can upload them tomorrow.

OK, it was fuse #6 in the junction box - many thanks to all who offered advice, especially Vlad, the diagrams helped heaps.
Now I'm about to replace the fuel sender and the radio....
Cheers

No worries Mike. I know the fuses almost like the back of my hand. Played with them when I was installing DRLs and glass break sensors.
BTW, sorry Mike was busy at work and forgot about the fuse list. Here they are:

No worries Vlad, I'll save them anyway as I'm sure they will come in handy somewhere down the track.
I replaced the fuel sender so now she has got a fuel gauge again, and replaced the radio with a cheapy US Audio unit. No real drama's but the OEM unit had a single blue wire in a separate plug. I couldn't find any reference to it on the net, and the new radio is working fine so have ignored it. Wondering if it might be for a phone mute?
Cheers
