I bought Monroe GTs for the VR-X a couple of years ago.

http://www.monroe.com.au/products/gt-sport.html

Yes, bag me out. Silly, I know. All I could afford. Front end ride is very choppy, lots of thud thud feedback though car's front end and wheel over sizeable road bumps and potholes. More than any other similar car I have driven. Front left partic harsh. Had it looked at: nothing wrong, technically.

Can the GTs be wrong for VR-X (Sports) springs?

Help.

Did you change the bump stops at the same time? Although I don't think you would be bottoming out.

The VRX springs were only 10mm lower than stock so I think the combo should be ok. Obviously even KYB's would have been better but maybe your springs are just worn as well?

Suspension experts correct me if I'm wrong but worn shocks cause harsh knocking and no rebound when you go over bumps I thought.
Worn / saggy springs cause lack or firmness and an overall boaty feel (+lower height over time).

Combination of saggy springs and no bump stops if you didn't replace them? Some people overlook good bump stops entirely when on a budget.

What's wrong with Monroe GT's? My Verada has them and the ride is pretty good, its just that my front springs are a bit soft

If I remember correctly monroe were the factory spec shock.....im happy to be corrected though

Id imagine if they were the wrong shock they probably wouldnt fit....

Have the strut tops been looked at?

I had a Sigma wagon that the previous owner had put aftermarket front struts on. Jiggly and capable of transferring small shocks into the cabin very effectively on bitumen. On a very rough dirt track though, they came into their own and performed well. Stable and good shock absorption when a normal Sigma would be bouncing all over the place.

In short, shock performance is all in the valving.

No. What am I looking for? Obvious movement/loose-ness in bolts/seals?

Did this happen directly after you had them installed?

Bush grease dries out, and slowly causes suspension to seem firm and and harsh.
When I installed L/W series subframes in my car the ride became a lot more plush than with the original subframes which I attribute to bush condition and grease
