I suppose it was going to happen sooner or later, car has done 330K km.

So I have bad leak, I've not looked closely, just the steering is juddery when turning and there is a puddle on the floor of my garage.

What normally goes wrong and what do we do about it? Refurb rack? Good used rack? Could it be just a high-pressure hose that's cracked and only needs to be replaced?

Thanks in advance,

I don't know whether to drive it to the mech and top up the fluid every few km or just get a tow.

Cheers,

Ian.

The judder is due to a variation in the pressure put out by the pump, so look for a leak between the pump and rack, especially at the joints of the hose to the pump and rack.

Had a good look today and it's leaking from the top, where the steering column inputs to the rack...

So it's not the pump or the pressure or return line, and needs a PS rack. Mal I'll call you Monday for your best 2nd hand TL/KL steering rack + fitting
