Hi Guys and Gals,

Picked up a '07 380 Series 3 ES with 88,000km on the clock the other day. Thought I'd got away trouble free when only 1000km in I ran into some problems. Skip to the bottom for the question.

Long story short here's what’s been done:
- New LF light assembly (stone through mine only 100km in)
- New front end bulbs (all)
- Engine oil change
- Coolant change and flush
- Dr Tranny added, 1 tube (this stuff is magic)
- Added (read took hours to modify and profile) front end mud guards as I see a lot of loose metal and mud
- Currently trying to source a new Emissions Control Valve, i.e. Mitsubishi Canister Purge Valve (which is accounting for some maybe 40% of engine tick I'm currently experiencing)
- Looking at replacing the front fog lamps with combination fog and driving lamps (wasn't planning on doing this for some time but wouldn't ya know I took a stone just yesterday to the left front side). Not sure which model I'll go yet.

So in an attempt to chase out the remaining top of engine noise I'm going to replace the lash adjusters/lifters.
My question is: prior to installing these do I need to purge all the air out of them? And if so, when doing this in an oil bath, do I purge them until the lifters are hard to squeeze? I.e. fully charged with oil.

My thoughts are that by purging them fully that:
A) on re-install the lifters will all be at the same height as they will all be equally charged, and so;
B) won't this cause excessive pressure on the lobes and cylinders??

Sneaky edit:
Sourced the Purge Valve today. Ended up going through the local Mitsi dealer after trying elsewhere. These little suckers are Bosch OEM but sad to say they've been superseded and then canceled - yip Bosch don't make them any more. Additionally Bosch are out of stock, not only in Australia but worldwide - they even checked the German manufacturing plant, talk about good blokes. Yes, it does appear you can retrofit other models, but no I'm not going to waste my energy and money working that one out.
So Mitsubishi Australia had 6 of these this morning (Part number MN180333) and by the time I brought mine last thing tonight there was 5....

The workshop manual has the information you seek. It can be found for download by searching around this site.

Before replacing the lifters, have you tried the Mitsubishi procedure for bleeding the lifters by gently revving the engine? The procedure can be found on this site.

Before your magic bottle went into the tranny, what was the condition of the fluid - and how long since it was changed? Mitsubishi autos are notorious for performing much better and lasting much longer on regularly changed, GENUINE MM auto trans fluid. The 380 box is more robust and gives less dramas than the Magna, but it still can burn the fluid and needs to be replaced on schedule. If it's burnt (should be bright cherry colour), brand unknown, or time since last flush is unknown - then you probably should get this done.

If you do end up changing your lifters, make sure you search this site for rocker gasket replacement. You'll need a torque wrench unless you want to be buying two new rocker covers.

I got it off ebay: http://stores.ebay.com.au/onestopgearboxshop/

Took about a week to arrive. Did find it out of Australia suppliers, but they all wanted to sell 24+ tubes of it. Surprisingly one of my local home brew mechanics did use it also, but won't sell it to customers - likely a good call.

Thanks muchly. I do have a copy but have missed that detail.

Yes, no effect though. Also ran a treatment of Nulon Lifter-Free which surprisingly did quieten the noise, but not remove it.

First thing I did was haul the vehicle into the garage and go over it top to bottom. The oil was spotless and a nice red clear in appearance fluid. I'm going to mount a tranny cooler and are planning on dropping the tranny fluid at the same time so I know for certain it's the right stuff.

Thanks for the suggestion :)

So have had a good hunt around and found numerous sources for the 6G75 compatible lifters ranging in price for Au $88 to $1440 for a set of 24. Crazy difference right?!
Sure the cheaper ones are China import and the more expensive are American import but either way that's a massive price variance.

I appreciate differences between manufacturers (build quality, spring strength, materials etc. etc.) but I wasn't expecting that much variance.

Can anyone recommend a good source for 6G75 compatible lifters? Something that's tried, tested, true.

There's mention on here to units from RockAuto. Unfortunately it doesn't specifically specify 6G75 compatibility on their website and they're also out of stock to boot. Fleabay has multiple suppliers but there is the question of quality again - and on fleabay I've found price frequently doesn't equal quality.
