in my opinion I now do not buy car stereo equipment new. I mean for $500 you can buy an average head unit new but if you purchase a second hand one then for $500 you can get a high end unit valued between $1000-$1200 when it was new. You can actually pick up current model equipment that my be a month or two old. I find that looking at ebay.com.au and caraudioaustralia.com are good sources to find pre loved car stereo equipment in near perfect condition. Just my opinion though

if you want new, 500 bucks is a basic start, not saying bad. But theres sum alrite stuff out there. Alpiens got a couple of decks bout that price range, not bad. Alpine is always good. dunno bout Clarion, and pioneer might have a couple. theyre the only brands for decks id ever buy, good luck mate. ill keep myy eye out for ya

I'm still working out how to play WMA... :)

I bought mine for $468 (RRP $599) from JB-Hifi in Parramatta, NSW....try to negotiate a price with dealers...

Good luck! :)

I am also looking at the factory unit thinking it needs replacement.. And I've only had the car for 3 days.. Shows how bad the factory system really is.

My only question is a lot of front loading CD players don't recommend them being installed at an angle. Is this a prob for some of you guys in the TR ?

For $500 bucks buys you a lot of kit as far as head units go.

You can get a great Alpine or a good MP3 player. I like Panasonic but some people I know recokon there junk.

I bought an Alpine mp3/wma head unit and am extremely happy with it :) it was about $460-$480ish.

I take it that it is installed on an angle ?

Does this cause any grief?

nah man sorry this one is in my TH - we have a pioneer deck installed in the TR - that doesnt cause any problems at all..

in my experiences in installing decks into tr's <ive seen about 5 different ones go in different tr's> none of them have failed because of the angle.. i dont know about the latest generation mp3 players though - they probably spin the disc at a higher speed.. but take into consideration any cd player that is designed for auto use is going to have a pretty resiliant mechanism in it - otherwise what would happen if you went up a steep hill? :D
