hey i noticed your a newy elante owner so WELCOME
also noticed you in SA too hope to see you around on a cruise.....with all thos mods your car sounds SWEET
Well like your sig says, go hard or go home.. so if you want to keep your car on the tamer side of things and probably on the better side of fuel economy (bigger turbo will want bigger injectors etc) i'd go the T04, but if you want to really go nuts i'd go the bigger turbs, why dont you go for a twin setup? make it different, plus get your block bored while your knocking the top off, 2.8l 4 tt would be very nice and theres a few kids around here with first gens who would probably like to know how much your set up is gonna cost, especially the custom manifold etc..

without being rude,
wouldnt it be better to save a fwe pennies, upgrade to a more modern, advanced and comfy TE+ magna, and if fudns permit, turbo that.
cos really, turbo'ing your elante, you'll only keep up/be lucky to beat a VRX.... being the model you have, your already so far behind..

Yeah mate he's right, but for the budget for turboing a TP you'll never be able to do it on a 3rd gen, firstly for the fact a perfect first gen with under 100,000K's still only goes for 5 grand where as any 3rd gen thats worth buying is a 3.5 and they start at 11K, for 11K you can have a turbo 1st gen, but it wont be holly****ing**** fast but then again anything for that kinda cash wont be at all so really if your in desperate need to be different but still the same turbo your car or else i rekon you should supercharge a morris minor or something tough like that, big ups dawg.

I agree with saving up for a newer, much better to drive model. Makes much more sense.
BUT... i think it's wrong to say his turbo 2.6 wouldn't be that fast. There has probably been a lot more research and effort put into turboed 4G54's over the years and the results produced are pretty impressive. I've read of Sigma's doing 11's and so forth with no extreme mods - that is of you don't include heaps of boost and strongly rebuilt internals as extreme.
Sure it will cost a bundle but so will a properly turboed TE. Don't be put off if you have heaps of cash and really want to keep your current car - but a later model will be much more pleasant to own.

I think that if you want to turbo the Elante, you should go for it, go for the T04, as you wont have to put as much work in with some parts, i would also be interested to know how it would go with a custom manifold, keep us posted with what you decide to do! :D

ok, things have been done, im going for a T25 turbo, the custom manifold is being done by me for nothing, my mate is helping and i have all the **** at my work, so total cost will probably be around $1000-$1500 becos im going for a second-hand turbo, only other costs will be BOV, intercooler, boost controller, boost guage just to keep and eye on whats going on

i think his purpose is to "engineer to excite" not to blow the pistions and conrods from the block.
hes not aiming for a horse power hero's supercar, just a zippy daily driver :)

What Booya said, i'm after the same thing. I just want to give my car abit more zip in it, cuz right now power is the only thing i dont like about my car (it's ok for everyday driving but sick of commodore drivers and **** bagging my car). They dont believe a magna can go faster than them, i'll show them good! How much for a small turbo that would require nearly no other mods? i just want my car to keep up with say, a stock commodore?

Give Bill at Adelaide Turbo Services (ATS) a call. He is in Marion / Sturt area. He will be able to give you some good advice as to what turbo you would be needing to buy for your price and expected power gains, etc. I say Bill because he is has been doing turb's for nearly 30 years. A T25 would cost around $500 (I had one on my car a few years ago but cant remember how much I paid!). A turbo needing a rebuild - allow for around $550 for most turbo's, so if you get find a really cheap turbo with heaps of shaft play or damaged wheels, you may find that you will save if you buy a better one for a bit dearer.
Hey - and don't go TT. Do you really want to be different that much by the extra cost / work and fact that you can get any T to perform just aswell in with what you are looking for.
Goodluck - your car looks minta neat!

Leigh, everything Magnamayhem is getting is pretty much what u need if u wanna turbo ur car. Theyr the same engines..
I dont know why so many people have a cry about the 2.6's.. Ive had mine for over 2 years and its plenty quick for me.. Ill get creamed by any 6cyl but i keep up woth other/newer 4 cyls lol not that its anything much to be proud of. But yea the 2.6l chambers make it a pretty powerful car while ur on the move. Not quick at start up, but if u have a car load and doin 60 and wanna speed off youll probably handle it alot better then most other 4cyls.
so yea.. leave the 2.6's alone

both the TO4 and T25 are too small for a 2.6, hese are around because the TO4 always gets thrown out of the 2.0 subaru EJ20, and upgradd to TO5 in the wrx and the T25 always gets thrown out and upgraded to T28 or larger in the S13-S15 silvia's. so they are too small for 2.0's . These turbos are perfect for 1.2-1.5 L turbo engines, very popular for little datsuns. but for the 2.6 which is a thirsty engine by nature and would produce as much exhaust as a V6, thers plenty exhaust gas to spool up bigger turbo. think GT30 etc.

They are powerful enough, dont get me wrong, but for taking on a V6 they lack the guts, for everyday driving they're fine i have no problems, i just hate how my commy mates think their car is so much better cuz its faster, wanna prove 'em wrong :D.

The TO4 or T04E is a big turbo (T3 flanged) and would be perfect for a 2.6. You are referring to the TD04l and TD05l on the WRX which is completely different. The TD04l/5 is made by mitsubishi heavy industries :) for subaru.
The TD04 (slightly different to the WRX one) is also on the GTO.
The T04 is not a BB turbo thou ... so spool up will be slower than say a GT35 or GT40.
It could be worth it to put TWO T25s on the 2.6. It does increase costs obviously ... but could be an interesting proposition.

I only know Nissan turbos (Used to drive a VLT) but I can offer this:
A T04 is too big (plus they don't have an internal wastegate). A T25 is too small. Either a T03 (VL Turbo) or a T28 (Skyline etc) would be ideal.
A T03 would be the pick because it is easy to get hi-flowed down the track, and easy to rebuild, although they are getting harder to find. A T28 may be cheaper and more plentiful now days, but the ball bearing and ceramic wheels make rebuilding and hi-flowing very difficult.
Be prepared for some lag with either turbo though, the T03 will be worse, don't expect any usable boost untill 2500rpm.
And remember with any major engine work or engine swap, work out how much you think it will cost and double it, or even triple.
