Hey hows it going everyone.
Now i decided not to buy a 94 or 95 magna.
Instead i am saving all my money up for my 21st and i will have $9g to $11g to spend on a Magna.
That is my definate price range nothing lower nothing higher.
Now i need to find out a site or from one of you's who can tell me the Magnas i can get for those prices.
I looked in the trading post and found the following info but there are many different types Advance, Altera, Exec etc.
Magna Advance TF 97
Magna Altera TE 96
Magna TE Exec 96
Mit Magna TE 97
Mit Magna TF Exec
Now i also see for around $11,000 there is also Verada Solara Altera SL ???
Now i need to know what are the features of the cars what you reccomend,
Sorry if i ask or if these seem dumb questions but ive tried to find info but its hard to find on here.
Write back cheers,
Bye Fellas.

You should be able to get a TH exec for that - maybe even an early TJ. Where are you? Look to the government auctions you can get heaps cheap recent cars.
I have a TE Altera - if you're looking for bells and whistles the Altera and Verada are the way to go. If you're looking for solid, reliable, newer with lower Ks, then the newer Execs will make you happy enough.
Most of the features of my Altera now appear on the Stock execs - eg air bags and ABS.
Things the altera has that the execs don't - increased sound deadening (car is near silent on the road) - Cruise, chrome bit's and pieces (looks sweet), front map lights, plusher interior, better stereo.
For the money I paid on a 97 Altera, I could have spent similar money and got a TH exec - with far fewer Ks on the clock - and some of the features I was after.
I'd personally recommend getting a newer car than the TE - being the first of the 3rd gens there are a few bugs - particulalry the gearbox ... it's more of an intermitent inconvenience than anything. Also I'd sacrifice luxuries to go for the bigger 3.5L engine - you wouldn't believe the difference it makes, especially with passengers or when towing a load for little difference in economy.
The advances and Veradas have climate control so you can set the cabin temperature and the car regulates it automatically.
Put together a list of features you want in your car - those that you really want, those that you desire, and those that would just be nice (but could easily do without).
I went shopping with the requirements of ABS, Airbags and Cruise. In my price range it limited me to the Altera and above and hence an older vehicle. Post up your requirements in a car so we can have a look and advise from there.

Hey hows it going.
I just has another look on red book then.
And the only Magnas what have 3.5l engine are the following:
1999 - 2000 - TH Sedan and the 2000 TJ's Thats in the year models from 96 to 2000.
But that may just be out of my price range.
Well what i am after is a safe, reliable good to drive car, with airbags, abs a heater what works, electric windows remote central locking.
I am going from a VL Commodore what only gets 200km or so for $50 of fuel.
What are these like on fuel ??
So you reckon to maybe get a TF instead of the TE's ??
Write back cheers.

If your concerned about fuel consumption, but still want a good size car, i suggest searching for a manual as they drink less fuel. The TE and TF with the 3L are quite economical in manual form, but by the sounds of this, a TH-TJ with the 3.5L might be out of the price range. You could get a TE-TF sports with all the push button stuff for around 10-12G pending if private sale or dealership.
good luck

I say wait around for a good deal you can't resist. Check out www.pickles.com.au car auctions in melbourne. For that money you should find a TH sports or a KF Verada 3.5 xi
If you do get a verada make sure it's an xi, u get leather, 10 stack cd and usually a sunroof
If you would like some help message me, cos when it comes to finding cheap cars I know where to look. I usually swap my cars over every year, although this will have to stop as I just purchased a house.

I agree with VRX-PWR - start haunting Pickles for a TJ that suits your budget - and don't spend all your dough - there's always stamp duty to take into account, insurance, possibly rego and then there's always SOMETHING mechanical in the first month or so.

in terms of power, the VRX and sports have the same, the only diff is that the VRX has the kit, wheels, embroidery, wing, and other rice lol j/k but the sports is cheaper. depends on what you're after. but i doubt you could get a VRX for 11g

Spend about 6k to 8k on a manual TE or TF, and then spend the rest on mods, like mags bodykit and exhaust, you'll be happy, trust me. :D
I spent 3k in the last two weeks, but to buy my car the way it is now in the yards I would be looking well over 10k, but I got my car the way I like it, not something that someone else has done, but that's just me, I like to start with a blank canvas and work on it, to make it unique, plus it's fun just working on cars.

Hey guys hows it going guys.
Thanks for your help.
Im slowly narrowing it down to the car that i wanto purchase this coming february.
I have decided i dont want a solara, executive or a TJ only because there a bit more that $11,000 i have budgeted for my car....I also looked in the trading post and saw no TH's around the $11g mark so i think thats out as well.
Veradas are a possibility but not at the moment just wanna stick with the magna then later go to the verada's.
Do you think its best to say get a TE or TF for that price or going to an auction and getting one what needs a bit of work ??
So that slowly narrows it down for us.
(Manual or Auto it doesnt matter that much to me so il say the models for you)
This is what it will be chosen out of:
96 TE Altera, Advance, Altera LS
97 TE Advance,. Altera, Altera LS
97 TF Advance, Altera, Altera LS, Sports
98 TF Advance, Altera, Altera LS , Sports
Sorry if this sounds like its getting repetative but yeh it is helping me out.
From what i have gathered in order of the worst to best from those:
Advance, Then Altera Then Altera LS Then Sports ?
Now all i need to know are pros n cons for these models and year types.
Write back.
Thanks guys.
PS - Add me to msn aussiegoonie@hotmail.com if you wanna help me out with the magnas.
Cheers.

The best thing to do would be to research the different models on sites like
Drive.com.au (http://Drive.com.au) or
Carsguide (http://http://research.carsguide.news.com.au/news/research_new.jsp)
Searching these will give you more accurate and better detailed info than most of us can offer. Keep in mind that all the models are basically the same with near identical mechanicals (major difference is 3.5L engine for TH onwards) - so condition, service history and kilometres are what counts.
You really just need to decide what trim levels and epuipment (ABS, Cruise etc) you want.
Auto's are more common - but manuals are a fair bit quicker.
My advice would be to definitely get a 3.5L TH if you want an auto (much more torque that works well with the auto) - hold out for a good price, you will find one around $11,000 eventually. But the 3L manuals are quick so i could settle for one of those too.
You may have trouble finding a manual 3.5L to fit your budget - but on another post here someone just picked one up for $11,500.
Of the cars you listed i would get the Sports - but that's just me - research and decide what equipment you really want.
Good luck

Hey there, I'm not too sure what the differences are between the Advance and Altera, but I just got myself a 98 TF Sports and the difference with it and the rest of the range is they have 16" wheels, 1" lower and stiffer suspension and the auto models are tiptronic.
Also, I had an RACV comprehensive inspection done before I bought it. The car had some problems which they didn't spot (central locking on left rear door was rooted) but they're gonna fix it for me. It's worth having an inspection done, but make sure you check the car yourself as thoroughly as possible.
Mine's only a 3L but I'm happy enough with it, since I never have more than one passenger. Just be sure to take your time unless you spot a good deal, and make sure it's not too good to be true.

The TH+ Advance was suppose to supersede the TE/TF Altera. But then again the Solara exists. From memory i think the Solara was basically an Advance with loads of cosmetic changes (ie the two tone colour)
