View Full Version : Looking at purchasing a 2002 MY02 VRX
Hey guys just after a bit of advice.
I'll be going to look at this car on the weekend...
2002 MY02 VRX (http://www.carsales.com.au/pls/carsales/!cs_content.dealer_vehicle?vehicle_id=1900739¤t_rec=8&total_rec=15&sort_type=1&price_min=15000&price_max=25000&make_id=3&model_id=57&keyword=VRX&state_id=-1&search_distance=25)
Do you think an offer of $20,000 would be reasonable for the VRX.
Are the MY02 the first series for the year so to speak? if so, what are the differences between series 1 and 2?
Thanks for your help.

Nice it's manual :D
MY02 from memory signals the car was manufactured in the later half of a particular year?
/Edit: MY02 = August 01 - June 02

Going by the look of that interior if it isn't a Series II it at least has all the gizmos you'd find in a Series II.
My Sports (which has exactly the same interior trimming as that VR-X :) ) has a manufacture date of early 2002 but scored the climate control, digital odometer, trip computer in the instrument cluster and the more up market stereo. This turned out to be a bit of a score for me because the one I'd been test driving had an analogue odometer and the trip computer above the centre aircon vents.

Hey mate thats a lot of Km's for a 02 model it should have half that but depends how it's been looked after tho :) also to see if it's series 2 look at the vin plate under the bonnet and look for the build date if it's built after Aug 02 then it's a series 2 but if it's built before then you have a series 1.5
Nice score with the manual W.D
Cheers

I think 20 Grand is fine. I seen one at Adtrans (cnr South & Daws Rd) for $21,990 and it had over 100K on it, but was clean. Most VRX's i could find when cruising around Adelaide has 20,000Kms or so on them and these had a price of $27K on them.
Providing it it clean in/out, drives well and has no obvious problems i think $19K-$20K is reasonable...
The differences between Series 1 & 2 are mostly cosmetic.. eg. speakers near the door mirrors, LCD odometer etc.. I would go for a MY02 for sure....
Let us know how you go and if you need anymore help...
Me sports is 3rd month of 03 and is a series II so i dont think it has to do with the latter half of the year and yes mostly cosmetics climate, digi odo, dunno bout updated stereo

I think 19K is a bit low lol
Providing its in good cond inside and out then I would say 20-21K. I paid 21K for my 2001 Series II VRX 5 Speed about 4 months ago so that gives you an idea on what to go by. Mines silver also :D

i always tell my friends if you're going private sale, in most cases, don't buy the car if the owner doesn't slash at least 1k off the list price. those ppl don't know nuts abt market prices... most of them. the car looks ok and the price listed is very reasonable. i wouldn't worry abt the mileage... though bear in mind timing belt change due in abt 10,000 kms.

I would definitely reccomend you do not buy at it that price, being $22,000. It's not even a series 2 and it has done more than average kms for its year. Most cars on carsales.com are overpriced, only a few of every bunch are a fair price in my opinion. I would wait and look around for another ad.

MY02 and Series II are two different things... there are no MY02's in 2003 only Series II's, and your car wasn't even built in the second half of the year in question as you've said yourself.
2000 - No MY02 or Series II.
2001 - Aug onwards MY02
2002 - MY02 through to June-July, Series II from July onwards...
2003 - Series II

Well bain considering i paid $23,000 for mine and it had 35,000 km's on the clock, lowered, new mags, strut brace, k and n filter immaculate inside out and it's Series 2 and that was 3 months ago i would wait cause that is too many km's i would pay 21k for that vrx with 40,000 on it IMHO but whatever floats your boat :)
Cheers all
Heath
