Hey all,

I've found a 3.5L Magna that is nearing 200,000km. Anyhow i've checked it out and everything seems normal and it "seems" to drive fine.

Has anyone done anywhere near or over 200,000km on the clock yet? If so, are there any problems I should look out for? Or should I be aware of any potential problems?

Mines got 270,000ks on the clock and still goes very well.

I get a small oil leak from the tappet cover and sump, but nothing to stress over.
These are well built cars and as long as there serviced then they will keep on going dude.

Mainly look at the aircon system, the main drive belt, and oil leaks. You could check the suspension too, if it's too spongey.

Got an 1988 MkII VW Golf somewhere in a garage in Belfast. It's got ~215,000. There are only three reasons I don't use it.

1. It's on the other side of the planet.

2. My stupid sister opened the door while it was reversing and bent the door out of shape. Water got in and the carpet rotted. It was physically impossible to sit in the thing last time I tried because of the smell. Of the carpet, not my sister.

3. The clutch has collapsed and fixing it costs more than the car is worth.

Other than that she is fine. Never got regularly serviced either but doesn't leak oil or blow it out the back. Tough old buggers them Golfs.

The chances of me getting to 200,000 in this Magna are slim. 75,000km on the clock and averaging 10,000km a year!

Over 212,000 and no major dramas, sure I wish I had bought a lower travelled vehicle but I might not have got a third gen as I wanted. Anyway, I am still a very happy camper :D

my TP has 179,000 on the clock and the only thing gone wrong with it was the clutch, replaced it with a brand new one for $120, got it for trade price and fitted it myself (easy cos im a mechanic)

Make sure the timing belt is changed soon (every 100K), check the water pump for leaks and you should be fine :D

yeah i know about the timing belt. However in the log book it says the major service (195,000k i think - it includes the timing belt anyway) has been done, however i'm a bit wary so i might just change it anyway *just in case*.

Late post, but have done over 190,000 kms in my TH (bought it new). A dream for cruising, very economical and fast.

Only mechanical issue was seepage around the upper sump - fixed under warranty. some minor issues with ashtray rails (too much coin 'cause I don't smoke), and CD stacker couldn't cope with random tracks across the 10 CDs - again, all fixed under warranty.

My TE has done 183200 and runs very well due for a service at 18500.
One think that was worrying me for a while was that a mate that owns a verada version has done way over 250000 and aparently his hydrallic lifters are going on it and he said he did some research on it and that its suppose to be common with the magnas for them to go about then. But from what i see here there isn't a problem. So i don't know what to think.

If this service was at a mitsu dealer they can look up the computer at that particular dealer and tell you what was done.
Worth a shot.

My TF was bought brand new 1km on clock in Townsville and sine i've had it only problem was the clutch which threw one of the pressure springs into flywheel side of clutch and scored flywheel. Other than that have changed the suspension and driven it hard. The car now reads around the 185000km mark and for those who know it, it's still going strong.
God bless the little bugger :bowrofl:

well i worked out that shuddering, weird split second power loss problem the other day. My throttle position sensor connector was kaput, so ive done a temp fix on it and seems be running fine since then. So little thing can do so much!

Did the car just drop out..? You're foot is on the accelerator in the same place as usual but.. the revs drop and your car slows down? Then all of a sudden - BAM - and you're off again?

Basically yes, the power loss was only a split millisecond, came back again than goes again. So actually what happens is the revs will hover around the mark. It felt like there was a lack of fuel pressure.

my TE has done 159940km's, no major problems except:

1. auto transmission ,getting clunky, checked fluid level and stuff that's ok need the dealer to look at it.

2. SRS light is on (been on for over 15000km's), dealer said the timing spring needs replacement. $300 it will cost, i dont believe it in airbags anyway so i'll leave it as it is!

3. brakes are getting spongy, so that needs replacing soon.
