My genius friend who owns a ford has being removing his filter thinking he is gaining power, yet doesnt realise it ****ing your engine
Do you gain any power?

no more than 3 - 5 kw if that... (same as if using a free'er flowing filter or pod)

not to mention the dust/deadbugs/other stuff going into your throttle boddy.

Yeah, Thought so I guess you may aswell do it if you are selling your car, thats the sort of gain you get from BP ultimate ey

I dont know about BP Ultimate and all those kinda fuels.. As far as I know, Higher octane fuel just means that the fuel needs a higher temperature to burn. So this means that if you are running a performance vehicle the fuel wont burn up anytime before the combustion part of the 4-stroke cycle. And hence be more efficent/powerful.. Which is particularly aimed for turbocharged vehicles or engines with performance cams etc..

If anyone can actually tell me what/if there are any 'performance' differences in high octane fuel for a standard car, itd be great..

Unless your car can automatically adjust the ignition timing to take advantage of the higher-octane fuel it will not make any difference in performance. It may run smoother or feel more responsive due to the cleaning additives in the fuel that helps clean your fueling system.

2nd Gen V6s run a knock sensor settup and can advance ignition timing slightly (or reduce it if detonation is detected), they produced (when new) around 120kW on ULP and 124kW on PULP. 3rd Gens don’t have knock sensors and do not adjust timing in anyway. Not sure about the 4 cyls.

Ahhh so thats why when i was looking up the gen2 v6 spec some sites said 120kw and some said 124kw.

Not that i run premium, one of the reason i brought this car was so i could stop having to run premium and save some money.

Removing the air filter

Hey it's a Ford. He can always just get another whole Falcon for $20.

There is no gain in rwKw on a dyno from removing the air filter unless it's dirty. He's probably better off getting a K&N. Should double the value of his car.

so why dont the 3rd gen have knock sensors? I assumed all newer cars would have these?

My engines specs (2.6 litre 4 cyl EFI) states that my car runs at 98kW regular and 102kW PULP. So when people ask how many kW's my engine has i say 102 cuz it sounds alot more than 98, hehe.
