People must agree pulling away from a ****ty vk-vn is a nice feeling at the lights when the commo driver thinks he is in a f11

yep, that'ld do it!! (nice one KB!)
down in bathurst last week end at a mates place (Pete's - who owns the 300kW SS ute) on the saturday before "the great race"... i was asked by another friend (who drove a VS) of a friend what i drove (I replied TH magna), and he laughed... Pete (who's had several runs against the TH) hearing this jumped in and said it, with out a doubt, would flog the **** out of his VS... old mate was a bit taken by this as Pete is a holden man born and bred and to be told by one of his own was like taking a kick to the nuts...

It's getting a new gearbox today ;) I'll clean her up when she gets home :D
lol seriously, my car looks so rough, I kinda like it that way though, scratches dents etc. Makes ppl thinking nothing of it
It'll be a sad day when I get it resprayed and kitted (if I decide to) coz it will be the end of the POS looking sleeper days lol

I cant agree more the awesome feeling of pulling away from those losers, especially VLT's and any 5.0L's. It is funnier when it happens to a gen3. It is good cause it really puts them in their place. We have so many of them where I live. They deserve nothing as they are all **** heads and I hate them. I hate them so ****ing much for so many reasons. They are all ****ed in the head.

dude i use to drive a commodore and ill probably drive another one before my time is up, quit judging people on their car man! Just because its not the sorta car that you like doesnt mean everyone who does is a dick head. And i hate to brake it to you but a stock gen3 will beat any stock magna. Now if you have a modified car then you may well beat one, but you will never beat a gen3 in a stock magna unless the gen3 isnt trying. Go check the 0-100 times for a gen3 and compare it to any magna
i like magnas as much as anyone else on this forum, but whats with this commodore bashing stuff guys? ever heard of "each to his own"

Im sure he just means the majority of people with commodores thing theyr top sh*t.. which just about anyone would agree with. 'shagnas' probably just had some bad experiences with the ones around his area. which is who he was refering to.
You get di*kheads everywhere, driving anything. there was an as*hole TR behind my arse actin like a jerk, wanting to do 90 in a residential area the other day. They come in all shapes and sizes.. theres the ones with the V8's thinkin they own the freakin road, then theres ones in sh*tbox 121's who are pissed off they cant afford a betetr car, so act like a moron on the road with a road rage comin outta their arse.
I think shagna just needed to blow of some steam lol

how much for the engine conversion killbilly?
i'd love to get this done and not tell anyone
Killbilly
26-10-2004, 07:56 AM
Engine: $650
ECU and wiring: ~$350
Custom extractors: $900
Getting wiring loom to work: $827
So about $2800 all up. Engine is still in stock form, factory ECU etc.
I told the club when I started the project, talked about it heaps before I did it, so I'm sure a few ppl thought I was all talk lol, understandably though! But since I've done it, I haven't really bellowed it out on the forums. I don't see the need to  Unlike some other ppl lol
Also in response to Gerard, MOST commodore drivers are people who just have their cars for work/family daily drivers. It's a MINORITY of commodore drivers that act like they're top sh*t. Same with Falcons. These rash generalisations are what make people narrow minded...

I am aiming at a getting a low-kms TF 3L auto as a nice (and not too dear) main car, so I can go more serious with my VH 6 cyl commodore. Then it will surprise a few! At 15.6 quarter mile (last run, poor 2.5sec 60'), it doesn't scare many people, but soon...you might see some *the feeling of being beaten by an old VH 6 cyl* posts ;)

Davesounds good! you going to leave it as a sleeper or give the exterior some work as well??

All I've done to the exterior is add VK clear indicators, VH SL/E rear bumper, add VL style side mirrors, and a 30mm (hardly noticeable) lowering.
At one stage I was even driving with 1 green passenger door (the car is indigo...) and 14" stockies  - adding to the sleeper image!
I think I'll keep the sleeper image (maybe with some OK-ish mags), most of the exterior mods that are available for low $ on the commodore just make it look tarty (imho)...
Besides, can't give away too much!

p.s. not saying all old VH commies are slow... but so far the only fast ones i've seen are 8'sJust in the next street to where I live is a family of Commodore owners. One comes to mind, I think the son now moved out, as the car is only there sometimes, but is a green VH with numberplates "KINGVH", and it is a very nicely put together package, sounds absolutely awesome! He has a mate in a VK Calais that turns up too, that has its circular air cleaner out the bonnet, but also a telling whine about it under acceleration. I doubt these would be in the sights of any of the Magna owners here. All respect to anyone who cares enough to do their car up tastefully and powerfully. Not much sounds nicer than a worked V8.

I guess I was a bit harsh about it. I have friends who drive some. BUT, I know way too many people who, I can't put it in any other way are d-heads. I realise that not all people are like that. I am not bagging out the car's as such but the majority of the people I have come across, been looked down upon and have been punched in the face for no apparent reason is mind blowing. I am sorry if I had offended anybody as I realise that not all people are like that. The stereotype of the commodore dominates the area in which I live in and the amount of **** that comes from them is appalling.
Anywho I was angry that night because I got fired from my work by my bosses who both own commodores and think that they are the ducks nuts. Plus I hate the manger who is also getting fired cause he is responsible for lying to the bosses and getting me fired. I hate him. He has an XR8 and is a typical Ford guy. Not saying that everybody is.
Saw a Lamborghini VT a couple of days ago looking very new and very nice. Now that is a car.

I hate all of this ford v holden thing. Both of them make decent cars.
I'm not one of these people that is either a ford man, holden nut, mitsu fan etc. I luv my magna to bits, but i doubt ill be driving one for the rest of my life. But i can understand where Shagna, and the others baggin out commonwh0res, are coming from though.
I think one of the biggest things that turns people off commodores, is all of the friggin HRT merchandise. or more specificly, the bogans who buy all of that sh*t and can neva actually afford a decent commodore. It always seems to be the ones who own the old VH/ VL etc that always have the HRT seat covers, HRT decals, HRT floor mats, HRT baby seats, HRT wiper blades, HRT.... HRT friggen everything!!! I think its funny that most people that buy that stuff are the ones who just dream of owning a new commodore, you dont see many later model owners wearing all that sh*t hey :D
Now if went around wearin head to toe Ralliart gear, and had our beaten up sigmas plasted in Ralliart sh*t, imagine what people would think. :bowrofl:
But what really p*sses me off bout holden fans..... is how they boo ford drivers on the podiums after V8 supercar races. Every race!! the only time i remember ford fans booing a driver, was back when they booed Jim Richards because they believed Dick Johnson should have won Bathurst, because Dick was in front when the race was called off. :doubt:
Anyway just thought id give my two cents. I think you all know what I'm talking bout though.

i drive around my magna with a HSV hat on :bowrofl:
i seriously dont think people are turned off holdens cos of HRT murchandise, its simply that when they get together in car related events they like to show their allegence, its the same as a broncos supporter wearing a broncos jersey to a broncos game... If you had a ralliart shirt and you where going to watch a round of the australian rally championship im quite convinced you would wear the shirt.
As for ford fans never boo holden drivers.. umm how closely do you watch the V8's? when mark skaife was winning everything he couldnt step foot on the podium without being booed off it by the ford fans, infact the ford fans would surround the podium even if it was a holdn 1-2-3 just to boo skaife. How quickly people forget..

I don't quite understand all of this....... VL were one of holdens poorest made cars. Beating one of them is not something to skyte about. I did my dash against a particular car (killbilly knows what i mean) and everyone had their fun degrading me for it. Anyone that has driven a 84-89 skyline will know what i mean when i say VL's are CRAP and not worth the fuel wasted on draging one. As for Holden v Ford ?? If you drive a Mitsu (witch I hope we all do, being on these forums and all) bugger both of them.

A turbo doesn't "need" an intercooler given the radiator is large enough to do the job and/or the turbo isn't all that big. On the same note you don't need a turbo to use an intercooler.

there are a few getting around, biggest power out of one so far is a dyno'd 280 odd kw atw. and ALOT have around the 170hp. most the faster ones are the g100 body and will easily run a 14, 14.0 is the best time from one officialy (taken to the drags) but most of the real tuff ones are track cars and they rol their eyes at drag racing

tonba, an IC is preferable but not essential provided boost is not too high, compression is not too high, and fuel octane is not too low...and it s not a 40 deg C day! seriously POrsche had no IC on the 911 turbo for the 1st 3 yrs 75-77 and it was one of the fastest cars at the time. but then porsche was really a part of VW, and they based most of their engine on air-cooling, so they were never really thinking of hot aussie conditions.
another option for cooling inlet charge is water-injection, im using this on my datsun because im rebuilding it suck-through carby turbo, (thats carby in front of turbo) so the air-fuel mix passes through the turbo. If the mix then passes through an IC it will cool down, condense the fuel and pools in the IC, plus its potentially disaster if u have a frontal prang or a backfire. Plus mainly im trying to keep it as original looking as possible. with the water injection, unless u take notice that the line from the windscreen washer bottle is going to the manifold instead of to the windscreen jets, u would never know its there. but u can not miss intercooler piping.
TC, is the G100 the 87 model? that thing ****ing flew! btw daihatsu pistons are sometimes used for bored out small 4cyls, so cant be bad. probably built with extra thickness and strength due to having only 3 to sheare the load, so i can see how they would probly handle decent boost stocko with decompression

04-11-2004, 10:58 AM
...... On the same note you don't need a turbo to use an intercooler.but its next to useless, unless you're driving around on a bloody hot day and your intercooler has a water spray and even then it won't make much of a difference!
Turbos heat incoming air up a lot (compression, friction and hot exhaust gases see to that) thus the need for an intercooler to get it back down to an acceptable level, most NA cars would see little improvement from a IC on its lonesome!

lol yeah but the engine was also 280 000k's old! it was pretty fundamentally ****ed! Its got a new engine now (although there isnt as many internal mods as you would think) and the turbo, rebuilt auto with full manual shift and its damn quick. That 12.9 was also done on road tyres. The intercooler is going on next along with slick and he is hopeing for low 12's.
The reason it currently doesnt need an intercooler is because at the moment its run on quite low boost, once he gets the intercooler on he will turn up the boost and is hopeing for 11's.
This is one old ****ty looking commodore that you should NEVER mess with..

bigger turbos produce less heat (because they are at the lower section of their effiency table) therefor need smaller intercoolers, but are generaly installed to produce big boost, which in turn produces alot more heat, requiring bigger ic's. My engine isn't IC'ed as stock, ran 12psi without a problem. Radiator size has noting to do with the temperature of the air entering the engine, and in half the cases, the turbo isn't even watercooled

I raced a manual Pulsar SSS on the weekend. She (that's right, a she) had a big exhaust, lowered, 17' mags & the usual CAI mods but I still managed a several car lengths till the 100klm/h mark.
She was a pretty good driver too.... took me for a spin in her car & she was really smooth with the stick-shift.
