As you probably read in the 'General' section, I got rear ended by a landcruiser with a bull bar yesterday and hence my boot became just a little bit crumpled....

So I'm driving home from the smash repair place yesterday (my cars still driveable) and being in the pissed off mood that I was I cranked my stereo up also just to make sure everything was still working fine. And suddenly Its like I've just doubled the power to my subs.... they are definitely louder... I was so pissed off before cause I had spent all this money on subs and amps only to find that the subs just weren't loud enough for my liking... not by a long shot. But driving home last night and they kicked arse...

The only difference has been that my boot is all crumpled up and was no longer sealed. Anyone care to explain why this would work.

maybe your car performs better when it can breath..... my car is louder when it is sealed and people holding everythign down..... but my other friend needs his to breath as well...
could be te resonance frequency of the car i not too familiar with the topic...
but if u go to www.caraudioaustralia.com
i'm sure smeone could explain it better for you

"The more space around a speaker the louder it is"
A quote from my friend who is a sound enginer :D

I noticed when my boot was closed it was louder, when it was opened they were crap.

But yes the more space / air around your speakers generally means louder.

How are your subs mounted? or were mounted?

Maybe they were in the wrong size box to start off with? I dunno how it was set up...

had 2 x 12" Pioneer subs in a sealed box (virtually the same dimensions as the official Pioneer box they make) rear facing. check out

the only difference from before the crash and after was that the boot was no longer sealed cause the lid was all bent up.

Encn....
Where your Amps are mounted on the sides....
How did you fix the top of the board to the car...
I can see that the bottom is fixed with 2 angel brackets ... but was wondering about the top?

TButcher.... it wasn't an extremely strong mounting point but I used the plastic carpet retainer plug thingo.... I made up a little metal bracket and drilled a hole in it then pushed the plastic clip through the carpet, the bracket and into the mounting hole for it, then screwed the metal bracket to the mounting board.... the 3 brackets at the bottom do most of the work of holding it in place, and the top of the board is pressed up against the framework of the car... the metal bracket was just to give it the little more to hold on to.

you can see it in this pic

My amp is mounted on the passenger side boot wall too. The top of the board is screwed in to a metal backet near the electric antenna mounting.

I can upload pics of it pulled apart if you want.
