Ok, when my car is idleing without the clutch in it makes this anoying 'Tappet' sounding sound.. it sounds like a tappet noise but the sound is much deeper. When i put my clutch in, this stops and she purrs like a kitten :D .. any idea what this could be? im gonna take it back for warranty (new car warranty) but im still curious on what it could be, if its something simple ill just get it fixed ( i hate going to mitsubishi).. any ideas? Cheers.

my first guess would be soemthing to do with the clutch.. maybe its starting to developing a slipping problem..?

Ok guys im 99% sure its the thrust bearing. Its part of the clutch system and only makes a rattling noise when in N and the clutch is disengaged.

Its not an expensive part but require the removal of the gearbox so im told so thats where it gets pricey. I know it doesn't do any harm if you leave it, it just makes an anoying noise. When you replace your clutch you would replace the thrust bearing at the same time.

I had the same problem and it was the thrust bearing. Nothing serious just annoying.

Just get it fixed when you replace the clutch

Yeah I had the same in my Lancer before it was sold. Mech said not to worry about it.

AussieMagna sounds right to me. Have had that problem a few times in rear wheel drives but same principle. Usualy thrust bearing.
