Hey, has anyone bolted one of the above mufflers onto their 3.0l exhaust piping? Does it fit up just as easy as the bolt on Lukey muffler? (I'm talking the rear section where it unbolts at the rear wheels.

Greetings All.

Hey REDAV. Yeah mate, I have done it. Well worth it. You will need a piece of 4" tubing, because the piping is just a little short. (Ive got the sport muffler). Other then that, looks good wit ha nice dump pipe, and sounds quiet but NOICE when you open it up a bit!! :D

Enjoy,

Yeah, knew you'd had a bash. So, there's a difference in length at the rear end of the car? I'm not talking from like the headers or cat back, just the muffler and the bit of pipe it's welded to which bolts onto the other bit of pipe under the back seats.

Greetings All.

As far as i know, the pipe is just a fraction shorter, which can be a problem, because my exhaust guy said that if he didnt add in the pipe, the rear section that goes over the rear axle, would hang so low, that if i went over a bump, i would hear tapping noises from the axle hitting the pipe...

Not sure if this helps you, but hey..ask if ya need 'ne more info! :)

(PS May only apply to cat back?? Cause thats whhat i did...)

Cheers,

I've just had this done to my 3.5 - there's two pieces to the process - the MIMR924731 - Muffler Assembly Main - $347.20 + GST and MIMB687014 - Gasket Exhaust Flange - $17.54 + GST - the flange is what's maybe making up the small distance you're talking about.

I did this on my car and the difference in acceleration, especially through 1st gear was pretty big. I honestly didn't think that it would make that much difference and was pretty pessimistic about it. Well worth it.

I have a new bit of pipe over the axle also. I will post a picture or two of mine tomorrow if you're interested.

Greetings All.

Id definatly have to agree!! Although, I find that the biggest improvement was in 2nd gear...(I have an auto with a DAMN high 2nd gear ratio!)

Sorta on topic but not, however I am wondering If I should bother changing the exhaust on my VRX?
I like the fact its nice and quiet but growls when you boot it. Would I notice any performance increase, or should I go straight for the CAI?

Well I took my original VR-X rear muffler off as even though the note was fine its just an overpriced (if you buy one) rear muffler. Sports muffler???? pah! its an offset muffler with baffles to reduce noise and a chrome tip. I replaced it with a straight through 3A Racing muffler and noticed the difference in performace immediately. Engine breathere alot better. One drawback is that it is noisier and I was sent by the EPA to get checked for noise pollution. Just so you guys know the test involves revving the car to 3750 RPM and the EPA limit is 90 DB. ;)

Is that in or out of gear as the note under load is different / louder to spinning freely.

Funnily or stupidly enough, its not in gear. Neutral or park and the engine is not under load but thats the testing requirements. As i said to the tester guy if the engine was under full load going uphill it would be way over 90 DB. To that he answered yes but so would 99% of all cars with factory exhaust systems.
