like i said in that other post agggges ago your lookin at $1000 give or take, i wouldnt bother with that price, you could do it ur self alot cheaper but its a big job as u need to replace the whole steering rack with the lighter p/s one not an easy job

*poke* what have you been smoking mad_lante???

No way will it cost you that much, all you need to do the conversion is:
Power Steering Rack
Power Steering Pump and Bracket
Power Steering Lines
Power Steering Resevoir

Visit your local wreckers, they can get you most of that stuff, 200 - 400 at the most for those parts.

And its not as hard as you just said, its a matter of dropping the power steering rack out, not very hard, and putting the other one in, it will bolt up in the same spot, all the lines, and the pump and the resevoir will bolt up in the factory spot (make sure you have the correct bolts).

Talk to Telemenohpee, he has recently dropped the steering rack on his car, and he will be able to tell you the procedures.

Yeh Steering Rack wasnt too bad, I'd never seen one before but i replaced it anyway.
My memory is failing me, but just undo the tie rod ends, the rack mounts and bolts, since mine was already p/s had to undo the fluid feed/return lines, and i also removed the RHS control arm to make it easier to pull the sucker out.

Putting it back I didnt line up the steering column connector to the rack properly, so the steering wheel was rather off, just take the steering wheel off and realign.

Not too bad but i just didnt know what i was doing.

edit: call up a few wreckers, mine was 85 bux with good cond boots, other wreckers wanted upto 160+.

You are right about that. I woldnt dare to do it myself. I just dont have the place for it and i would probably end up ****ing up.

If its going to cost me anything over $600 including labour, stuff it i cant afford it atm. I dont really mind having no PS it would have been nice though.

Thanks for the replies.

Oh yeah going offtopic, Im going to get my aircon converted to the new stuff for around $150 at the local auto electrician

yep, that's what i got quoted for reconditioned rack and pump + new lines and stuff fully installed. i looked into it cos i was getting annoyed of the heavy steering and crap turning circle... but now it's not oo bad i guess - i've become used to it...

i have a pump, lines and resevoir... just need to rack + steering coloum (powersteering and non-powersteering coloums are a little different) and the motivation to do it... really i'd probably end up paying someone cos i couldn't be stuffed doing it myself lol

Even though the steering columns are differant, i think you could still get away with using a non power steering one on a power steering system.
