View Full Version : Pacemakers/2.5 inch cat back Redback Exhaust Sound
Hi All,
Ive managed to do a quick sound clip of my exhaust for any of those wondering what sort of sound you may get out of a redback.
I think i put the camera to close.. but anywho.. here it is
Its 109kb's so its dialup friendly.

Yup, when I had the redback put on I luved the sound. I now have a 3inch straight thru ... one resonator and the smallest straight thru muffler you ever saw (not a cannon ... yuk) !! ... and DAMN its LOUD (sounds good thou)!! I'll take a recording tomorrow hopefully. :)

sounds unreal :D Got any pics of the muffler?
Also with the backfiring sound, that can't be too good for your cat can it? Or is it actually "backfiring"?

I recorded mine but I cant find the file... but yeah the Redback note is certainly not overcooked... growls quite nicely, mainly at around 2000rpm.

The popping sounds is when you floor it and back off (those noises were coming at 5000rpm) which sends unused gas through the cat.. hence the popping noise.
O and THsmoker, ill get one tomorrow of it on take off (under full load)

Bain do you find the redback drones at all? Im after something to replace the VRX system that is loud under load but not too droney for regular driving.
How much did you pay for the setup?

It drones a little around the 1000 - 1600 mark if you are in to high a gear.. Not loud enough to worry about though.

Hey Bain...what sort of power/torque increase did you get out of it? Where did you get it done?
Hey Bain...what sort of power/torque increase did you get out of it? Where did you get it done?dunno about the torque or power as i didnt get it dynoe'd in the end.
I had the extractors put in at the same time, you can feel a bit more torque.. But nothing with a big WOW factor like some people say :)
It was all done at Daalder Exhausts in Box Hill.. Great bunch of guys there.

Bain give it time for your extractors to carbonise and your ECU to adjust to it. It took my ECU a good 4 weeks to adjust to my extractors and induction. Before i noticed power delivery wasn't as smooth but now power delivery is sharp, crisp and smooth accross the whole rev range.
Planting it in first gear even when moving now just results in wheel spin. Its excellent :D

man i ****ing hate that popping sound. i was cringing listening to most of the audio clip bain. To really hear how an exhaust sounds i think its best to hear it taking off full throttle from 0-100km/h.
no doubt it would sound very nice then, as TH smokers did :)

Go easy on the gas when the car is in Park or Neutral lol
In normal driving conditions I don't get it but rev it out stand still and you get it. but that is my car anyway!

As with just about any car you rev up to 5000rpm and then step off the pedal.. Its going to make popping from the unspent gases in your cat..

I'm runnin a 3' marine grade stainless mandrel bend exhaust, 3' high flow cat, hi flow res(to take out the rasp), 3' 3ARacing can, bolted up to wildcat headers. When i work out how to attach it i'll post it up soon o.k. I quite like the sound, very little popping, but i like the pop/backfire sound so i may downsize the can to get more.

TH Smoker, is your cannon a 2 1/4" or a 2 1/2"? At the moment I've got a 2 1/2" Straight through system to a 2 1/4" muffler, and I'm wanting to move to a 2 1/2 inch muffler (even though it sounds awesome at the moment) to free up the system for later modifications - I'm really quite worried about how loud it will be after, however, because at the moment it's quite loud (measured at over 94dB)..

My cannon was a drift type 3" inlet and 4" out, very loud and quite a bit drone but it was good when cruzing at 100 until ya put a bit of load on it(eg; a hill), my exaust was just stock with the cannon
