View Full Version : turbo setup??
Ive been thinking of perhaps turboing my car (a long way off, if it happens)
Just a couple of questions in regards to sourcing of required manifold, turbo, etc:
1)did a turbo sigma come out with a 2.6L engine
2)if the sigma only came turboed with the 2L engine, is it possible to adapt this to the 2.6  or would a custom manifold be required??

You need a custom manifold no matter what because the sigma engine is the oposite direction, because its rear wheel drive.

And it aint just a manifold you need, i would advise SERIOULSLY looking into it properly, so you know exactly what has to be done, otherwise its gonna turn out to be more expensive than what it already is.

if your gonna do it you really have to do it properly, that means forget about adapting parts off another car and just do a complete custom job.
Expensive? yes.. Worth it? Defently!

the search function is ur friend. i think ive answered about 10 threads in regards to turboing a 1st gen... not too mention talking about the sigma manifolds
yeah, there's been billions of threads about this and truely unless your either super stupid or have plenty of cash and want to keep your car for a while and don't mind about getting paid nothing for it on another 5 years time i'd just use the money to step into a newer magna/car which is what im doing right now, or you could be lucky like aussiefella and score a predone magna for like 1200 bucks and just throw in the turbo'd motor. a 3rd gen would be as fast as a turbo 1st gen and unless you do some massive dollar tuning and highspec everything i honestly think its just not worth wasting your hard earned bucks on hey mate, its just not sensible.

Indeed, which is why it is very unlikely that it would actually happen  .
However, the cost would be significantly reduced if there was a turbo sigma with the2.6L engine (cant find an example of one so ill assume that they dont exist) from which 'some' of the needed equipment could be 'adapted'. Instead of mucking around with a 2L one, or getting one made up properly.
Yeah mate the turbs sigma was 2L not the astron1, we've all been there and gone 'OMG turbo sigma! bolt on! YAY' but the sigma's gear is about as bolt on as an elephants butt ... i wanted too do this at one stage and even spotted a mistu turbs and manifold on ebay for $200 and i shat myself and went on IRC ( #magna ) and asked if it would fit, and this very wise and smart individual called Samuari said yes so i instantly bid and won.. then he laughed and i found out why later and just whinged to the dude and didn't pay.

Wish i had of been there lol.
ah, so its good to mislead/piss ppl off these days
anyway, a turbo 1st gen, even with a miseasly 110kw would probly go faster than a 3rd gen cos it weighs ~200kgs less
standard(ish) turbo kits from rpw are around $5k give or take a grand and gets u around 140kws. and u wanna leave some extra money for things that help traction and things that help you stop
id rather a turbo first gen over a 3rd gen anyday, but only cos of the novelty factor

Yeah i wanted the novely factor, plus i like the look of my car but when it comes down to it and your just a workin joe like most dudes on here the money just isn't worth the pay off and how long the vehicle will last, you'd be throwing atleast 10 grand at it to make it worthwhile, which is practically building a new car. this is what i wanted to do over a long time.
Respray in artic white with my factory pinstriping airbrushed on with GT in there at the back
whiteline works kit
KYB shocks in Whiteline springs that were reset to make it lower
(obviously) 3" turbo back with a nice muffler
DBA gold fronts and silver rears with good pads, maybe even a brake upgrade
not sure if RPW give you a FMIC but i'd go with a big fat custom like booya, only different
complete interior retrim - whats the point in having a nice car outside when its still **** inside?
big stereo, etc etc etc..
throw some cash at it and i figured i may as well get a 3rd gen spend a few grand on that and it'd be worth more in the long term, look hotter and they're bigger cars (interior wise) oh and V6's sound super sexy when they're going nuts but yeah i guess where respect is due for all you guys out there with character and chose a 1st gen i'd say go for it, i'll support you full on but for me it just didnt seem right, just because i wanted to take it so far. 1st gen with leather - that'd be the sex.
