G'dday all, I have just joined this forum, as I recently bought a tidy 88 SE 4 500, thought it was going to be a bobmb, but I actually like a l lot now, so I'm slowly perking it up.. anyway, I need help with replacing the stereo, I took out the original radiocassette, and it has a plug, but it doesn't tell me which colour cables are for what... Or is it better to just rewire the whole thing from the battery again?? As you can probably see I do not do that well at electrics.. Cheers!

firstly, welcome to AMC. i hope u find it as informative and helpful as i do. feel free to ask anyone anything :D

now, my 86 TM is the same shape as urs. wen i had my H/U installed, i had to rewire the WHOLE car. well i didnt do it, but i got autobarn to do it for $50. it's easy enough to run wires to the boot where the rear speakers are, but the dash speakers are abit more tricky.

where did u get the H/U from? if u buy from autobarn or strathfield/brisbane car sound, u could ask them to install it. cause u bought the H/U from them, i think its cheaper to get it installed with them than anyone else.

hope this helps,

brendan

Welcome

unless you really going hardcore on the audio theres no need to rewire it what so ever. the only thing you will have rewire is the speaker wire as in the gen1s all the speakers share the same ground and this will cause problems with all new headunits. Thats an easy job if your going to keep the stock dash speakers that nots to bad to rewire the back speakers are a sinch

but as for the wiring i presume its a TN being an 88 (the wireing colours where slightly differnt betten the TM-TN-TP)

blue-acc wire
black- negitive to all spakers
black/white- positive to the front right speaker
blakc/green- postive to the back right speker
black/red- postive to back left speker
black/yellow- positive to the front left
red/white- full time positive <fused
green/white- head/light dimmer wire
