Hey all
Now I know the usual its an auto... auto's are crap stuff, and it's noted...
Just that I'm occasionally getting a very noticeable thump and jolt through the car which seems to be happening from 1st to 2nd (although i'm not sure about this as it catches me off gaurd). It's very intermittent, and it happened a few times before when I first got the car, then went away and was changing very smoothly, I recently disconnected the battery so I think that I've reset the computer. Possibly causing these problems. It happened twice in one night a few days ago.
Does anyone know what this is? could this be the auto packing up, dirty trans fluid? Bands? Flux capacitator? I was thinking of getting my auto serviced soon before anything major happens. Just wanted any more advice before I go and throw money at people to do stuff that might not need to be done.
I think it will go away eventually as I drive it a bit more, but still don't think that should be happening in the first place.
Any advice greatly appreciated.
details: 98 TF Advance, 3.0 litre 24 valve ..., auto, no engine mods, no fluffy dice
Peace
Tim

would suggest a trans flush usually fixes up most probs with autos

Thanks, has anyone had any problems flushing transmission fluid compared to just replacing it regularly. I know replacing it won't get it all out but I've heard of problems with flushing in other cars.
Cheers

I've got the same AUTO box as you, when I bought my car, the Auto Fluid was very dark *burnt* and shifts were quite rough, especially down gearing.
I had it flushed and added a Transmissions fluid cooler (just a radiator for Trans fluid)
and it's been running good ever since, I periodically check the trans fluid and it's still the nice pink colour. I highly recommand you do a fluid change and add a trans cooler.

Awesome, I'll fix it this weekend hopefully and get it serviced/flushed. Possibly enquire about a Trans Cooler. I got one on my other wheels and never had any troubles there, so may be a good investment.
How much for a flush usually? Found one place for $99 but not sure if they change the filter. Otherwise $129...
Anyone know a better place in Melbourne?
Thanks

My 3 litre auto has also done this, although it hasnt done it for a while now as Ive done aloty of driving with out resetting the ECU, bit scary when it does it as it gives the car a fair jolt. i suggest trans fluid flush and change, and trans cooler just to be safe, drive it heaps without D/C the battery and you should be right.

Yeah only problem is I disconnect the ground a fair bit as I'm slowly installing stereo stuff. But hopefully will finish up all that in the next few years... :doubt: ;)
Might just disconnect fuses now though to avoid all these problems.
I know what you mean about a fright, it happens at such random times and throws you back in your seat.
Good to see it's not just my car though.

Ah stuff that, I'll check em out just in case but might see what these $99 guys are like. Unless of course their new transmission fluid has little Mistubishi logo's floating around in it lol

i dont think anything can help the gearbox, they all seem to do it some time or another, its an auto thing, the olds falcon does it every now and then too. havent been in a auto that doesn't have problems

Yeah i got an old XF Wagon, Auto as well. But never had a prob with it. after 500 000 odd km's its changing better than the TF... Well it's a different change. Vacuum assisted I think. Thats what I'm used to anyway, the Magna auto's take a bit of getting used to. I might go get this flushed then reset the cpu again just to see if it has made a difference.

Just gave them a ring, Southern Mitsubishi said $240 for Transmission service, which includes full flush, new filter and resetting computer settings. No shiny diamonds in my new transmission fluid, so I don't think I'll be goin there.
Wish I had a trade discount, I didn't know you got that much off.
Peace

If you're down south, There's a Transmission service place on Sth Hallam Rd, they call themselves the Hallam transmissions or something. look in the yellow pages online and search for Transmission, you'll find them easily. They are good if you can get there during business hours and they open on some Saturdays as well. i think their price was like $90 for normal service. and about $160 for a full.
I did mine here in Thornbury, Thornbury Auto and Diffs.
