Okay, I know that it was asked not too long ago, but I thought I'd ask anyway just to confirm.

I'm looking at putting a K&N POD Filter onto my 1990 Magna TP, I think that what Im after is the K&N E-2875 oval pod but I'm not entirely sure.

I attatched two pictures below, one of the housing for the filter and one of the existing filter. What would I be required to do in order to attatch a new POD filter to the existing housing (in other words, what sort of mounting bracket will I need.)

Also, is it safe to run without the air filter cover and the air intake and resonator? And will it make much of a difference overall?

thanks in advance.

Hi mate, the search tool is your friend, there's only about every second thread here about pods etc.

Now i dont know about the part number but if your talking about a pod like any old pod for your magna, its a no can do mate, but if your talking about the K&N replacement filter, which is oval and is kinda like a giant pod then tops, now as for running it without the resonator, i took that off the first day i got my car and ive had it for a year now and no worries, if you look at it, it just chokes your airflow.

Secondly having no airbox on (the metal cover) i've had mixed results, i know the car definantly goes better but i've had some idling trouble with it like that, i also tried cutting up an airbox and also had the same issues but other members have had no issues what so ever so it confuses me, i've reset my ECU, but i still get issues which is of course is the chopped airbox or minus airbox so i guess you can only try it hey?

to reiterate - You CANNOT fit a normal POD with an adapter or something like that, you WILL encounter idling and running problems, look through the forum for an indepth description. You CAN and are most welcome to fit the K&N REPLACEMENT filter which will give you performance and no problems what so ever. thankyou and good night.

Best cheap mods for your tp from what i have found is as follows:

1. replace the plugs, dizi cap, rotor button lol.

2. airfilter either K&N replacement or any after market coz that one looks as shaged as mine was.

3. carbi cleaner spray! clean your throttlebody and pcv valve, this stuff is a $14 godsend used it on mine was done in 10min, this fixed my idle hunting problems and gave me a noticable improvement in power not to say my weekly fuel bill came down.

4. check vacume hoses for splits, replace where needed.

5. see $2 CAI post  still have mine running.

another thing to take into account...ive got an 89 Tp same air filter setup, and i took the whole airbox ouyt and put a pod on the end of the intake pipe, i got a good improvement on accelaration and an awesome sucking sound but.....

when u remove ur air-flow meter u confuse the ECU: this means the ECU cannot tell how much air the car is bringing in and so doesnt know how much fuel to mix with the air, so the car will run either rich or lean and u will have idle troubles.

ive built a custom airbox with a cold air induction pipe running down to the front bumper for cold air. my box has a clear perspex top so u can see the pod inside the box, looks really cool and pretty cheap.

Cost:
Pod $65
Box: $40-50 worth of stainless stell sheets
Perspex: $20 from a mate
Piping: $40-50 from autobarn

Yeah, definately post some pics if you've got em mate, that would be great.

I like the idea of your set up, but to be honest am more interested in how you set up the cold air flow piping in your engine bay. Pics should answer that question =)
