View Full Version : finally lowered!

well after watching the springs and shocks sitting in my garage for a while, they finally got pulled out this morning and put on my car..
one thing that was interesting though, i ordered sway bars through a friend, after speaking to whiteline and them telling me they had front and rear sway bars for a TH magna.. however, once my friend started pulling out the suspension, we realised my magna has IRS, and no where to bolt the rear sway bar.. just wondering if any TH magnas (possibly execs?) have the mounts for a rear sway bar.. or if they also have IRS.. Im assuming TFs dont have IRS and TJs do, and i was just caught in the middle..
Anyway, heres pics:

looks great!
Hmm, i didn't think they'd changed the suspension setup through the whole 3rd gen series. From all my research i've done, I havn't heard about any major changes
Although the wagons I'm fairly sure does not have IRS, still an old fashion leaf suspension.

Rides beautifully now... heaps less body roll.. feels like it grips the road alot more.. even seems more responsive.. its amazing how 8cm and a heavier bar can make such a difference!

They always look better lowered. Nice!
About the sway bars.. you can order two types from whiteline, a replacement sway-bar for those with a factory bar (like the Sports models) or a whole kit which I assume comes with the necessary brackets. If you bought the first type, you might need the second.

King superlows on the front and King lows on the rear. Also changed the shocks over to KYB's.
The front of my car dropped about 10cm and rear about 7cm.. it will still settle a little more yet. I'l measure ride height when i get a chance during the day.
I was actually very impressed considering so many people Id spoken to had had their springs compressed more to get their desired height.. for me this combination is perfect.. its driveable (altho does scrape the toe hook thingie and my exhaust when being careless) and its as low as id wanna go looks wise with 17s anyway
I stil think its wierd whiteline didnt sell me the sway bar with mounts, think it might be a sign that i shouldnt put it in.. have you guys found them worthwhile?

Having a TJ Sports I've got a factory sway bar... I can't say I've spent much time driving a manga without a sway bar, but I can say that I've never found anything bad about the setup I'm currently riding with. Get the mounts and put it in, I say.

the stock shocks are very soft. Would suggest getting something stiffer. I run koni adjustables in my car and dont think ive ever bottomed out.
meh: yes it is
Yeh i've found the rear swaybar to be worthwhile. I cant say i drove my car ever with just the rear swaybar changed to tell you how much its contriubuted but with front/rear sway bar, front strut brace, koni's all around, camber kit all around + anti-lift kit the car handles a lot better. It moves around a whole lot less around corners (which makes it feel slower even though you're going faster) and understeer has been greately reduced.
Not sure if the sway bars have anything to do with this but entering my local maccas i lift my rear passenger side wheel off the air by about a coke can standing.

Hey guys
If you are fitting an after market sway bar to the rear of your ride that has not been fitted with a factory bar before, you can buy a mounting kit for about $50
When you order the sway bar kit just ask for the mounting bracket kit aswell !

ride is a bit firmer.. nicer if you ask me.. i was expecting it to be worse but its great :)
im not in Autosalon cos firstly, there are quite a few large scratches on the body of the car, and one of the wheels.. Very noticable when its clean.. as well as not being able to afford it and i think il be in melbourne that weekend. If someone wants to pay to repair the dings and for my entry then il come ;P

probably yeah
being an independent rear end, the wheels are designed to have a fair amount of movement up and down, and the swaybar greatly limits this.
rear sway bars dont improve handling as much as the front one, but just settle down the rear end a bit, sometimes in the wet it might get a little skatey when they front is so firm.
so mysti, when do i get to do a roadtest ?

Looks HAWT
Although you've got me thinking about my car and how much it's been lowered. Company that done it before I purchased it reckon I only have 30mm lowering springs in mine, if so .... what's broken.
Sexc car, sexc driver ......... now all you need are my shoes ;)
