As per title, just wondering whether FTO brake calipers fit the Magnas? is it a straight swap or would I need to modify?

they might, FTO and Magna's share the same brake disc, might be the same caliper as well

Greetings All.
Yes they do. The reasoning behind this, is that 3000GT brakes will fit magna's & FTO's. So all brake packages are interchangeable. Another bonus is that I am led to believe that EVO brakes will fit magnas also. BRING ON THE BREMBO's!!

correct.
when looking for proformance parts dont ask for magna parts. look at 3000gt (6g72) evo brake hardware, fto engine parts, mivic heads etc,
magna isnt a proformance car. but is built from parts off one.
the magna is a crossover proformance wanna be car lol

so does anyone know what the biggest brakes available for the 3000GT is? and what would it take to make em fit?

Greetings All.
I believe that the 3000GT comes with 4 spot fronts and two spot rears. But you would be able to get 8 spot brembo's if ya wanted to...

The GTO has mitsubishi branded sumitomo 4 piston calipers using a 300mm rotor.
I don't believe they will fit a 3rd gen without a little grinding to flatten of the back of the knuckle. A second gen could be a different story.

Cool, thanks for all your replies, you've convinced me to get a pair of twin piston calipers off a FTO GPX, which uses the 'same' brake disc as magna.
I do hope the mounting to the knuckle will be the same.
But I can't wait!
The reason behind going to twin piston is because it is a cheaper altenative than going the AWD brake package, a lot cheaper! I reuse my dba slotted 276mm rotors and the calipers are bolt on, so I'm lend to believe. I don't go twisties all the time and I just want more bite from the brakes, so continuous heat is not really a problem, hence the reason for not going bigger rotors.
Anyway, when PhilTH's group buy goes through, I will have a nice brake package on my car.

AP Racing do a kit for them. this is the largest kit i can find. not cheap at 3980$US eeeek! (5334.41$AU + GST + FREIGHT.... ahhh.. if i only won saturday lotto... once. lol)
6pot front / 363mm front two-piece rotors. apparently need min 18" rim.
detailed info;
AP Racing 6 Piston Caliper System
• Light Weight Aluminum Alloy Bodies for reduced unsprung weight
• Fixed mounting points for minimal caliper flex
• 6-piston Design to allow for larger pads and increased bite
• Differential Piston sizes (2 x 27mm, 2 x 31.7, 2 x 38.1) minimizes pads taper and maximizes even friction pressure
• Anti Rattle spring reduce pad noise
• Stainless Steel pad Abutments to reduce wear
• Top load design for quick pad changes – great for swapping in race pads for a day at the track
• Inner wiper and outer dust seals for every day driving
AP Racing 363 x 32 mm *(14.25 x 1.26”) Rotors
• Directionally Curve Vane Vented for maximum cooling
• Cross Drilled and Slotted for aggressive pad bite and proper out-gassing
• 2 piece modular disc for reduced weight
• Fixed mount for reduced wear and noise
Brake Pads
• FERODO DS2500 Compound for fast street and light track use
• Pad area 75cm squared x 2 per caliper
• Consistent co-efficient of friction at low and high temperatures
• Rotor friendly compound for extended rotor life

geeeezus! $5500 for a pair of front brakes?!? ok, maybe i should re-phrase my question..
so does anyone know what the biggest brakes (that aren't stupidly expensive) available for the 3000GT is? and what would it take to make em fit?

AP Racing 4pot calipers to fit 330mm aftermarket brembo dba xdrilled and slotted;
calipers x2 @799 ea = 1600$
dba xdrilled disks @499ea = 1998$
braided brake lines + caliper mounting plate and half decent pads to suit= ~400$
install approx = ~300$
misc costs (fluid etc etc) = ~150
3448$ front setup.... (this is what mine has cost me)
guys, braking hardware isnt cheap. the best bang for bucks would by far be the AWD setup. which could be found under 1500. new.
its no cheap exercise. :(

Gosh, it is expensive isn't it.
I'm glad it only cost me $150 for the two front calipers, and I can reuse my DBA slotted still, which saves me the $500 if i was to buy AWD rotors.
New pads will probably be around $100. and plus some brake fluid, i think i'll get away with this brake upgrade under $300
found some interesting reading if anyone has time, re: brake warp.

The tooSlow special edition of a tf solara has 4 piston brembos and a 320mm rotor (EVO8 style). ... well it will as soon as customs clears my brakes for delivery ;)

As it turns out, it may look a bit harder than I had thought, well here is the problem, the distance between mounting bracket holes on the Magna is 140mm (according to Mitisman Dave), the FTO calipers is 130mm. I've had a quick measure, and yes, the Magna mount bolts are approx 140 apart on the knuckle.
Back to the drawing board. Any Ideas guys?
RPW dave has offered me to do an exchange for some twin piston calipers which does fit 3rd Gen Magnas. But if I do go down this path, it'll cost me postage and little bit extra he said.
Need suggestions.
Madmagna, do you think you can make it fit for me? I've got ideas, Just don't have the damn tools. I'm sure there is a simple and quick way of adapting FTO brakes onto Magnas. Just a matter of finding the right way.
I hope my small wheels will have enough clearance too. HAHAHA

$5,500 for a set of calipers and discs!!!???
God that makes my upgrade bloody cheap!!!
I'm using 3000GT/GTO calipers which are 4 spot - $660
I'm using RDA 314mm slotted discs - $280 pair
Bendix pads - $80
3000GT/GTO front hubs - $300
Staying original by using Mitsu parts over aftermarket stuff that will not do any better job on the street and will prob turn more heads - priceless

I believe big brake upgrades are possibly one of the best mods you can do to a car. You see too many cars running around with huge rims and stock brakes and it just looks like every other done up car. With a big brake upgrade, especially my red GTO calipers, or in booya's case his AP calipers it really shows that you mean business and everyone will 2nd guess whats under the bonnet. I'd rather fork out the bucks for a brake upgrade well before i'd spend the cash on a bodykit

I totally agree with this. It just doesnt look like rice. They see the huge brakes and do a double take on the car. They are GREAT!! Perfect for the magna...which is really a sleeper/cruiser then a in-your-face ricer or big block car...

white devil, didnt you get any improvement in initial bite from the DBA's or only an improvement in fade resistance?

the DBA rotors provided better fade resistance (due to the slotts) when I first used it with advance pads.
when I changed pads to Metal King the initial bite improved.
