Check the fuse first. Not sure if it's under the bonnet or in the driver's footwell.

If it is the fuse, there will be a reason why it blew. Replace it and limp to the garage!

Good luck. :D

If the fuse is good, check the relay.

If you know what you are doing you will be able to check the fan still works by pulling out the relay and bridging the appropriate terminals.

One other thing to check is that there are TWO temp senders. Nearly side by side, one is for the gauge (which appears to be working), the other is for the ECU/fans you could have a faulty temp sending unit.

Hey,

I'm an electrician so I kinda know what I'm talking about...

Sometimes fuses just blow when there seems to be nothing wrong at all. If it is blown, just replace it and see how you go. If the new one blows then you should assume you have a problem. Next, as someone suggested, look for the relay. To test this swap it for another relay if you can find one that looks the same. Most relays have a standard shape so they are interchangeble, but every now and then you find a wierd one. If your problem still isn't fixed, go for the temp sender - If the two are the same then swap them and see if this tells you anything.

A question - Are both fans stopped or just one of them? If one goes but the other doesn't, then I would assume the fan is buggered. If both do not go, I would assume that the fans are ok, and they're not getting power. The logic behind this is that it would be a pretty big coincidence that both fans would blow at exactly the same time.

Hope some of this helps

You're almost right there. Except that whilst the A/C is off, the normal case is that only one fan will be on, and at rarity the second fan will only turn on when it is very hot.
