i recently had a 900w (350rms) Type S alpine sub and D Class 700w Mono amp installed with the original deck in my 97 KE Verada. The Sub Is Facing into the car as it was a delayed boom when facing the rear. wen i have the middle thingy in the back seat down and the bass is booming with the volume turned up to about 3/4 of the maximum level, i get a plasticy sound like something is touching the front of the sub (but isnt) if you get what i mean.
does anyone know what this could be and how to fix it? is it simply because its new and needs to be run in? anyone........

Are you sure the sound is coming from the sub and not from, say, the rear view mirror? Vibrating rear view mirrors is a common complaint!

almost dead certain. ive jumped in the back and had a close listen. ill check the mirror but i doubt it.
if no-ones heard of what im talking about then maybe it is a mirror or something. i cant hear it while the seat is up but then its not as loud and i know its prolly still doing it and i dont wanna wreck my sub or anything by letting it continue, whatever "it" is.

I use a couple of the 2004 model S Type Subs and these sound squeeky clean to me. As you sure there is nothing behind the speaker itself causing the problem? I have seen some speakers where the flexible copper wire runs between the terminal and cone touch the cone during large excursions which kinda sounds like a rattle. I probably would pull the driver out of the box for inspection and testing but don't give it too much stick whilst it's out of the box or you will end up buying a new sub!

edit - i have a spare 2003 model S Type and it is fine also....

so you rekon inside the box, behind the sub face, something touching the cone there maybe??
