  the sign of death finally happens, and this is bad, what do you reckon the best temporary solution will be? will thicker oil & STP Stop Leak work? i need to hang onto this car for another month or so

No, it's signs that you'll need your valve stems done.

oil in the exhaust?! oil cant pass thru your exhaus without burning up! its probably just water from your cat or condencation in the exhaust  take a photo man, i doubt ur engine is stuffed, but if it is oil then omg it is stuffed in a big way :P

Buy a head rebuild kit which gives you seals and gaskets($120), you will need a valve tool $25, and torque wrench......
Oil getting into the exhaust is a stem seal problem, but are you sure it just isn't running rich
and during superheating of the exhaust moisture, mixing with it? Might just need leaning off a bit. Otherwise spend a day on the top end ....should be good as new

how do i know if i'm running rich? is the valve stem seal hard to do? mine is V6 btw. i can't get any pic sorry, no digicam atm, but definaely there's some oil in there, and i can smell oil burning as well sometimes. is this bad? thanks

ps: i'm using penzoil SAE 60 oil for older engine atm, it does help a tiny bit.
