Hey Guys,

A mate is about to buy a 3rd Gen Verada and is insisting on the later model dash thats black and lights up with ignition. Is this only on KJ onwards? Can it be fitted easily to earlier models? Does anyone have any idea what im talking about?

Thanks!

Kyle

Gday Mate. We have the lights he is talking about in our series 1 KJ, I am pretty sure these were the first models to have them.

I think it would be very hard to use a 3rd gen cluster and to put it into a 2nd gen model, the shape of the instrument cluster is significantly different.

I was referring to putting it in an earlier series 3rd gen. Thanks anyway.....

Yeah the KH was the first model to have the back lit instruments and i'm sure the same cluster was used in the Series 1 KJ. The Series 2 KJ's onwards have a different cluster. Still back lit but with no black glass in front of the dials which means you can see ther dials even when the car isnt turned on and the layout is different also. The setup used in the KH/KJ ser 1 is much better and looks much classier.

As for transfering one into an earlier model 3rd Gen, i'm not sure but i dont think it would be straight forward or easy. Could be wrong though.

I just picked up my new verada today and just wondering about the dash - is there anyway you can set it so it automatically dulls at night? Also, my headlights come on all the time, can I change this?

Well when you turn the headlights on, the instrument backlight should automatically dim, it should also be adjustable though.

As for the the headlights coming on all the time, I had no idea that the later Verada's ran day time running lights?

Yeah I found out about this earlier today, however I do know the KL GTV has a blacked out instrument cluster, so they must have reserved this feature on the higher end Verada's on the later models.

Does anybody know the part number for this fanciful back lit cluster? I think I might try and locate one ... for a conversion :)

Yea there is a small wheel mate that u can slide to the left to make it dim auto matically. If you have that dial all the way to the right it doesn't dim no matter if the lights are on or off! When the wheel is all the way to the right it will click into place meaning that it will be bringht no matter if the lights are on or off. By simply moving it to the left so that it isn't in the clicked position it will ensure that the cluster auto dims when lights are turned on.

Cheers!
