View Full Version : something knocking around
When my car is cold, and i drive (or roll so the motor is quiet) slowly down the street... i hear some type of knock or rattle. it sounds like it's from the back of the car (but might not be). it almost sounds like it's the exhaust moving around and hitting something... but all the rubbers are fine, and it only does it when it's cold... The only other thing i could think of is the CV's, but they are fine...
any ideas? or if i'm correct in assuming that the exhaust is moving around, how can i prove it? cos i can move the exhaust around by hand and it doesn't hit anything...

i know exactly wat u mean. my exhaust is rattling at the back. i havent actually had a good look at it so im not totally sure wat it is. im gunna get a whole new exhaust put in anyway so i thought i would solve the problem then. it is DEFINATELY at the back though, and im positive it is the exhaust
is this a TM thing? cos i've been in many TN & TP and they don't do it... but the only TM i've been in is mine...
if it is a TM thing, then my excuse will be that it adds character to the car lol

yeah well it only started happening just after i took my engine out. my exhaust is connected up properly in the engine bay (i dont mean to the engine, there is a place u can bolt it up to the chassis i think it is). only magna ive heard do it is mine.
i dunno if mine ever did it before i got my new engine... but it sure does it now...

mine does it as well. but i am not sure its the exhaust. it sounds like it is comming from the passenger rear wheel.. i have tried to shake the exhaust but it wont bang. and when i wobble my rear wheel it moves a little. i first thought it was the bearings but i replaced them and it still does it.. so now i am lost... HOWEVER.. you may be right as i put extractors on it but since i put them on befor i drove it i dont know if it rattled before.

maybe its to do with the rear shocks mine does it also but only when i reverse out of work on the smooth concrete other than that i dont hear it, havent had my engine changed but the exhaust has been off and on for repairs (split the middle muffler thing) and also when the extractors went on the whole system is quite firm in its mounts

What is the condition of your suspension bushes, and all other connections? eg shock mounts
Spare tyre and jack tightly secured? :)

looking at mine today it does indeed appear to be the bushes in the rear as there is a little play in them... guess its time to fork ot more money
