Hi yall, Just wanted to hear your thoughts on the following deal I've been offered by a local wheel/tyre place here in brizzy.
The wheels below in 17x7, rubber, and lowered with kings springs (1' or 2') for $1,800. I can get it on interest free finance for +10% but probably won't bother.
Seems like a pretty good deal to me - but then I've never done anything like this before.
Also, he said I'd probably be right with the std shocks for "about a year" - what do y'all think about that?? he said I'd be looking at $200/corner for short travel shocks (probably whiteline) - I'd be pushing sh*t uphill to afford that as well before christmas (and it seems a bit excessive to me anyway)
Edit: - He also claimed that a camber kit would not be nessecary to lower by 2' ?? I'm not real sure about this claim.
PS - I'm getting DBA rotors courtesy of PhilsTH's group buy, hence the 'wide-open' five spokes.

Cars just on 2 years old - done 49,000. If I were to lower 2' I'd definetly take the guys advice and replace my shocks within 12 months, especially as the next scheduled mod include fitment of pacemaker headers.
I've heard a few people on here claim that they have fitted 'low' springs and haven't had any problem with the factory shocks.
Anyone got anything to say on the price?? if its a good price i'll ring em tomorrow and arrange a time, if not - I'll shop around some more.

wheels are similar to mine

i got my wheels and tires for $1700 ad then got the car lowered with kings low for $380. i had to change my shocks though i took it to get it serviced and the mechanic told me i had to replace them because they had started to leak. but i like the way it looks at the moment. for that price it sounds like a good deal.

After a bit of shopping around - I've settled on the below wheels in 18' (might not be exactly - but very similar), tyres and lowered with 30mm Kings springs all round for $1800.
You can't really see it in the picture - but they are semi "deep dish" rims. Had them out and put them next to the car. I'm pretty confident they will look very nice.
Getting done on tuesday while I'm at work. Will post pics later next week. Thanks to you guys you provided some feedback - this is the biggest decision I've had to make since buying the magna.
Cheers.
where did you get that deal for rims and lowering?

Got them from a mob called "the tyre factory" <--- take the spaces out from between those 3 words, add www. in front and .com.au at the end. (your profile says your in NT, and their website doesn't list any stores up there - but they used to be Ian Diffen if that rings a bell).
I'd basically gone to one place - talked them down as low as I could, and then walked into this other shop and said "the bloke up the road will do me 17x7.5's and kings lows all round for $1800 - but I want 18s" The guy I was speaking to was the manager of the store and he got all like,
"they're not the cheapest - I'm the cheapest"
Anyway the rest as they say is history. I didn't really realise how good the deal I got was til a week later a bloke I work with went to the same place, got a set of wheels - same size, same rubber, same brand, slightly different design and more chome no low springs and paid $2400 for em!!
My advice - shop around, if you can afford it - get more than one thing at a time (ie: wheels and springs, or wheels and exhaust etc) gives you more bargaining power, and once you've got a couple of quotes - play them off against each other. Also - let them know there's a limit to how much you can spend - I rang up the day before I was booked in and asked how much extra for them to fit my DBA replacement rotors while they were at it - they told me it would depend on how much labour was involved. When I dropped it off, I popped the boot, showed him the replacement brake gear and said I want them fitted but if it's more than $50 don't worry about it cause I haven't got the cash on me. Guess what? - they fitted them.
anyho...heres some pics of her now for anyone who's interested:

Nice one, I like your style. Your bargaining style, that is.
Those 18's don't look bad either, although could maybe do with the front being a little bit lower.

Thanks man. I'm not convinced about the whole supa lows on front/lows on rear combo. Never seen a magna with that setup in the flesh - so I got nothing to go on really. But I swear I look at mine, and think it's lopsided cause the back ends too tall - cant imagine how lopsided it would look if the front was even lower!

Black Beard,
What brand / size are the mag and tyres... Looks very good...
Just curious, any vibration when changing gears at all??? That's what happened to me after I lowered the car by 40mm using the stock shock.

The badge in the centre on the wheel says "Avantek" - I've never heard of them before, but I'm no expert. They are 235/40/R18.
I have noticed a small amount of vibration when it changes from first to second with a small amount of throttle. While I definetly do intend to change the stock shocks (probably KYB or Monroe GT gas - I don't race the f*kn thing  ) - I figured with the age of the car and the fact that I was only dropping it 30mm (i think) all round, I could afford to put the shocks off for a while.

Hehe... I'm so glad someone said that, thats my que to say:
When I pick it up saturday morning - it'll all be colour coded (wing mirrors too) and no more damage to the front bumper - yippee (photos attached previously were carefully angled from the "good side"). :)
Then someone can say: "all it needs now is a pair of para's"
well all i can say to that at this stage is - I'm working on it, no set date.
