Is is possable to convert a TM Carbie Manual trans to a Auto? My Manual Trans is stuffed, with no Syncro on 2nd or 4th, with 3rd comming up close too. I can get the required gear to convert cheaper than the $1700 the rep told me it would cost to recon mine. Plus I'm gettin lazy (gear chagin), yet feel like a project and this convertion is it.

What Auto models will fit, obviously the TM autos will fit, proberly the TN, but I'm told the TM trans can be rotton at times. So would the TP trans fit, I imagine it is a newer unit, but am unsure if the TP computer does the EFI and the trans, EG would not be happy with my carbie?

Also, it seems the TPS on the autos have a control disc firmly attached to the butterfly rod within the carbie, can you attatch the disc to a manual, or do you have to change the rod, or entire carbie?

sure thats all possiable but i dont know why you would wonna go auto tho... it will he a hell of alot slower, heaver on fuel etcetc

$1700 is WAY to much to recon the box i got quoted not long back to get mine done for $1200 i will just be with out a car for around 2 weeks

from what ive read the TM and TN autos are very much alike it was the TP that they revised the ecu for the trans

Ive just gotten lazy, sick of changin gears. Plus the syncro been stuffed since I bought it 7 years ogo, thus this manual has been slower than a auto as I have to wait about a second between shifts for wot's left of the syncro to sync up.

As a bonus the missus can't drive a manual!

I guess i still need to find out what the latetest trans this old TM will take. I expect TP, but I'm wondering if a TR trans will work if they do not have a combined EFI/TRANS computer. Obviously it's a carbi model, so the TPS may be a problem if the TR TPS is diffrent to the TP one. (Also most of the TR's are EFI, Confusing the matter)

What are the inprovements of the TP and TR trans to the TM/TN trans. Ive heard far too many bad things about the TM/TN trans so I think maybe the TP may be the go, and I should be able to find one with a carbi to pinch, for the TPS.

Any ideas would be a great help.

TR won't fit. The KM175-1 from the carby sedans will work in the TM, but I'm not sure about the KM175-2, and I can verify that the KM177 from the TP EFI cars has some minor computer issues due to the changed wiring

Thanks for the reply,
KM175-1 is out of what model, TN I imagine? (are they any good?) I thought there was a KM175-6 in the TP's that would be the same body type, and have some carbi models avaliable?

KM175-1 = Carby Sedan
KM175-2 = Carby Station Wagon
KM177 = EFI cars

Just went through the Mitsubishi manuals for TM, TN, and TP, it seems the TN (175-1) trans needs a extra coolant sensor I cannot install due to the hole already being in use! The TP however only uses a oil temp sensor on the trans its self, that I would move over with the trans wiring loom.

It also includes the Economy / power switch, that I can install into the hole already present in my TM. Everything else on the TP seems to be compatable.

How are the TP autos for reliability?

Quite. Mine is an isolated case. (Clutchpack partial failure, won't change when cold)

They're a bit prone to getting warm, but are the most reliable out of all the First Gen automatics.
