View Full Version : SRS light stays on
Howdy all,
My Cruise control started to play up so one of the tech's at work had a look at it to see if it was just a loose wire (tempremental problem kinda pointed to this) however now that he has taken the steering wheel appart the SRS light is on and is staying on..
any idea?? Is it because the air bag module was taken out and then put back on?? Is there a way to re set the system to get it to detect the air bag again?? Its a TE, 1996 Altera if that helps at all
Cheers.

only way to reset things is to uplug the battery.
but i think the main suggest your going to get is take it to a mistu. mechanic because you don't want your air bag going off unexpectedly.
yeah... the battery was onplugged while he took the wheel appart to save the airbag going off... so apparently that wont reset it, got a feeling I may have to go to the dealer..
Just wondering about the cruise control. When the speed is set is it normal for the car to accelerate for half a second or so? So far I havn't been real impressed with the cruise control, but I am comparing it with mums mazda six, so maybe its not too bad after all.
the cruise, when it works, seems to hold the car within say 3 or 4 Km/h of what it is set..
I was quite happy with it when I first used it, of course it depends what sort of road your traveling on, going up a hill holding 100 or 110 it can sometimes do a rather violent jump back in gearing to hold the speed...

Yeah - my TJ does that too. Weird. The cruz control in my last car (fairlane) was the complete oposite, ie; when you got to the desired speed and triggered the cruz control it didn't kick in for a couple of seconds - by then you've dropped 3-5km/h. But I've noticed exactly what you described with my magna.
Oh well - wont kill me.
Sorry, should have worded better. I ment as soon as i flick the cruise lever down to set my desired speed, and car accelerates for .5 of a second, usually somewhat hard too.
I'm assuming its normal.
With regards to the SRS I would definatly talk to a Mitsubishi dealer about it and get them to have a gander. There would be nothing worse than to be mid nosepick and to have the bag go off. Im sure it would end in tears.

Yeah my TH does it too, bloody annoying cause ya got set it down a little. But I still luv cruise.
Last car was a TS and it had a brilliant cruise, they use a diff setup on 2nd gens.

The light is on cause its regestered a error code, doesnt mean somethings wrong just means that something in the SRS system was not right, ie: unplugging the airbag. you will have to take it to a dealer so they can clear the code with the computer, its a five minute job but they will prob sting you....

That too...
Don't you guys RTFM when doing things to your cars. Its clearly stated in the manual what to
do when messing with the steering especialy in relations to the SRS airbags and how not to get
its light to light up. You will have to take it to a Mitsu dealer to reset the light.
As for the cruise. When you trigger it, it does accelerate slightly due to the fact that you've let
go of the accelerator and the speed has dropped a little. When I trigger the cruise on mine,
I've still got my foot on the accelerator so the cruise control does not need to adjust the
speed at all.

Well actually I do the same thing as you, ie. I hold the pedal until the cruise is successfully set, which happens when the cruise control accelerates for half a second, quite annoying I must say because it actually makes you speed for a sec  .
So it must be a trait with the 3rd gens. Another annoying aspect is that it isn't "consistent" in keeping speed sometimes, it would suddenly accellerate for half a second on a flat road to keep up to speed. I've used the cruise control on a Commodore and it doesn't do that, it keeps up to speed very nicely.
