i had a build up of oil in the inlet manifold (plenium chamber i think its called) i was told my oil rings might be on the way out. has anyone had this problem and if you have and had it fixed how much did it cost thanks in advance, Brett ,Green Eyed Magna.

Well what it Could be is the PCV valve , the positive crankcase vent which is a small valve and tube that connects both crankcase's to the intake tract and allow's pressure to be taken out of the crankcase and with it goes oil i once made some oil/air seperators to prevent this and they work great. I would assume that's your problem rather then piston rings on a 1997 model car

Huh? Oil in the plenum chamber? AFAIK that's hard to achieve... and your oil rings are on your pistons so don't ask me how they contribute to oil in the plenum chamber.

Only thing I can think of is to check your PCV valve & circuitry - it's only meant to recirculate oil vapour NOT liquid oil.

Huh? What .... The.... ****... no that's not hard to achieve as i have already mentioned you can quite easily fill up your head with oil if the engine is working overtime and in that case its very likely to travel through the PCV and go strait into your intake manifold.

And yes oil rings are on the piston's so when there warn oil can get past go through the valve train and then whereever it wants to go.

Geez was it that hard to understand ?

It's probably not rings that are your problem but valve guides/stems. Got the same problem in my V6 TS where you get a build up of oil in the upper cylinder. Not sure how much this cost to repair but i'll be doing it in there near future along with other head work.

I'm paying good money for a head job, but i won't feel a thing :?
