My cars 45000km service was due so i called around few places in Melbourne to compare the prices:

Make/Model: 2002 TJ Magna Sports Series II

KM done: 44550 (+/-)

45000 Major Service Include: Engine oil change , Oil Filter change, Brake oil Change , Engine Coolant change, Front 3 spark plugs change, Air Filter Change, Engine Dianostic Check and tune.

Spark plugs were changed just 5000km ago so they wont be required to changed.

Following table will be helpfull for every one:

Service Centre : Price $

1) Hidelberg Mitsu 310 (280 with no spark plugs)

2) Ripolena Mitsu 350 (less $15-20 for plugs)

3) Preston Motors Mitsu 360 (less $15-20 for plugs)

4) EastSide Mitsu 375 (less $15-20 for plugs)

5) Northern Autos 380 (less $15-20 for plugs)
(previously Northern Mitsu)

6) Essendon Mitsu 380 (less $15-20 for plugs)

7) Alan Mance Mitsu 425 (less $15-20 for plugs)

.................................................. .........................................

8) Shell Auto Serive (Nth melb) 275 ( 260 with no spark plugs)

9) Ultratune (Preston) 205 (with own oil + no spark plugs)

10) Brake Plus (Preston) 205 (with own oil + no sprak plugs)

Which I am pretty sure that 8, 9 and 10 will not be doing "Engine Dianostic Check and tune".

Also I was interested in Transmission oli change which was from $70 (Hidelburg M) - $125 (Eastside M).

and Transmission Flush was from $160 (Essendon M) - $200 (Eastside/Ripolena etc).

I was also told that transmission flush is required at around 105,000 km so simple oil change will be all i needed i.e. if i needed and they will see that with the colour of the oil.

So far my car is being serviced by Brake Plus (i.e. for last 2 times) but considering this service involve "Engine Dianostic Check and tune" I am not sure if they will be able to perform it.

any ideas will be appritiated.

Also with my experience of calling around i will strongly recomend to call around before you take your car for servicing to good old mitsu dealer as it might save you a good $100+ .

cheers

isnt "engine diagnostic and tune" just fancy speak for 'check for little lights, and reset ecu'? :D

The difference between dealers is a lot bigger than I would have expected.
I just got mine done at Shell Autoserv, $450 for 105k service. The car's running fine, and they did do an inspection on the car, engine and all. I'll have to do coolant system service soon.

Have you considered getting a performance air filter? Since you'll be changing yours soon anyway.

The difference : I am also thinking the same line that it might just be resetting the ecu and checking if the lights are working okay or not. But considering it will be my last major service in warranty so i want them to have a good look at it.

Mad ix : Cant change to performance filter atm as car is still under factory warranty till July 2005 after that he he he .

I'm of the opinion if your after best value from your warranty get it checked out by an independent person (maybe even NRMA or RACQ, RACV) just prior to warranty expiring.

Why?

Because the mitsu delaer will let any problems go until after you are out of warranty (if they can) so that when it breaks ... they get to charge for labour at least!! :) but you get stuck with labour and parts!!

Also warranties are not void by going to someone other than a dealer!! So long as they are licensed the car maker cannot quibble!

i get my car done at midas cannington, they charge $160 for a fully comp service (and they stamp my warranty book). They also changed my timing belt about 15000km ago and that only cost $220. I have never had a problem with them. Mitsubishi wanted $500 for the timing belt change so i thought $220 was a pretty decent deal

kewl solara just had our 2003 sports tj fwd series II in for our 45,000 service same items as you were quoted but we were charged extra for syntethic oil (cause i wanted it) and minus money (bout $20 i think) for air filter as i have a k&n panel filter and it cost us $290 but we are in adelaide but dont think the prices should vary as much as you have been quoted!!!!
P.S You can put a panel filter in and i dont think it will affect your warranty.

Asad, was the car an anniversary edition? If it is, it's got free service for 3 years or 60000KMS...

Bankstown Mitsubishi (Sydney) just did my 45K service on my TJ VRX.

$312.80 by the book, not including oil and filter (I supplied synth.)

I'm comfortable with that :)

Hey nick, Na man car is not aniversary eddition:)

I think reseting the ecu is pretty much disconnecting the battery and connecting it again.

Hidelburg mitsu is the cheapest one but they dont work on weekends and during week their timings are 7:45 am - 5:30 pm so its kind of impossible during a working day for me to pick and drop the car there.

confusing confusing confusing
