Just a quick question for anyone whose either changed their springs or schocks..

What do i need 'toolwise', to simply remove the struts of my car and swap em around with another.

Just the right spanner or whatever to remove the bolts and couple of jacks?
Anything else?

Ive never done it before, but i cant imagine id need anything else..

Asking stupid questions on a forum is really great for people with a lack of hands on experience :D

Thanks..

19mm spanner, two of them or another equal sized socket and wrench, 12mm spanner and what ever yuo use to get the wheel off. its not a hard job.. do ur new struts come with springs? because getting the springs off can be tricky/dangerous without the right tools

once the strut is out, by undo'ing it from the strut tower on the engine bay side, and then from the sway arm down the bottom, u have to compress the spring with a spring compressor then take it off.. put it on the new strut then install again, making sure the springs are alligned in their grooves at the top and bottom of their braces

the springs are coil over the shocks, so i dont need to compress them and remove them. All i need to do is remove the strut, which is both spring and shock. And swap between the cars.

But thanks for the info. Looks like it wont be a very hard job. Might just be a bit tricky cause the nuts are over 10 years old and have never been removed

i dont think it's as easy as you think it is dude.
im pretty sure you need a torque wrench to tighten the struts to the towers and the brake assembly.

To do the job properly yes you do.. Most backyard shonky's like Turbo_Charade dont use one.. (jokes)

Struts are simple to remove..

mate, have a look at the tech pages on www.madmagna.com

keep in mind that this is a very dangerous job if it goes wrong, as Choonga can relate to :)

i personally wouldn't tamper with anything that involves shockers, brakes and most important parts of the car... my life is too precious.

I think youre over dramatising that..

Shocks are only dangerous if you dont use the proper tools.. Brakes on the other hand.. I agree..

Yea ive read through the faq on removing the struts in your site malcom. Which i might add is very useful :)

And yea, i dont see the harm, im sure hundreds of people have removed their own struts before. I dont need to remove the springs or anything, just a few bolts to undo and re-do, and make sure its all tight and as they should be?

Ill do a test run on my car before i go ahead with anything. But I honestly dont see any danger or harm.

Bain youve obviously done this before? Safe enough right?

Im not an idiot, if you guys recon its stupid to do it myself. I wont. Its why i asked for help :)
