say im driving down a road at 60km/h my car would then suddenly change down a gear, causing the rpm to jump to 3000+ then back up again, then down again, causing my car to have a compression lock up for a second then relase and do it again, why is this???

Is it a flat road??? cause if there is even a small hill and your right on the rpm where it changes this could happen, or maybe foot slightly going on excelerator and when the rpm goes up u pull off some pressure, thats all i can think of, probably no help at all but i tried

Maybe a faulty TPS?

Yeah could be something to do with the TPS but because you mention the slight compression lock up, that sounds more serious and most likely they tranny. I had a KE from new and it started doing that from second to third when driving normal. Would give a quick compression lock up. Took it back under warranty and they first changed the tranny computer. No difference so they just changed the whole tranny over. Said a diode had gone or something.

I would check the tranny oil levels, disconnect battery for a few hours and then connect back up and try again. If no luck then best to go see a tranny specialist.

its not a small lock up, its kinda big, then when in drive it could change into neutral while still in drive and the neutral light would just flash on and off

The Neutral shift light flashing is a transmission fault warning. Check your manual. It will tell you what the neutral light flashing means.

Yeah, like FamilyWagon said...the neutral light flashing means there is a problem with the auto. Take it into a dealer and get it checked out.
