View Full Version : '96 TE 4cyl
Sorry to keep hounding you guys for opinions on random Magnas, but trust me, my intentions are good ;-)
I was pretty keen on avoiding a 4cyl, but one has come up that I am considering buying for perhaps $4500 (at auction)
144,000km on it. Bog stock TE.
Does anyone have any strong feelings as to why I should avoid a 4cyl Magna of that age/mileage? Not too fussed with going fast, that's what my bikes are for ;-)
Major service interval - it's 150k for these things isn't it?
Resale value?

Can't tell you much about them in terms of reliability. Guess it is like any other. If it has been looked after then it should be fine. Haven't seen any of them blowing any somke or anything like you do see some 4cyl TS magnas.
I had one as a hire car for a day once and i would perfer to drive a 4cyl round every day over a 3.5 magna/verada. I found the 4cyl to be much zippier, in terms of around town performance, engine liked to rev more, is much lighter which made it handle much better and is easier to throw around and best of all, much better on juice. My KH can drink a fair bit round town where as the 4cyl used no where near as much no matter how hard you drove it.
Not sure about the major services. the V6 is round 100k.
As for quality, well the quality of the car is fine, as good as any other, just not sure what transmission they run if it is the same as the V6. Have a KE and had it since new. Auto packed up at around 20k and they replaced it under warranty. Been fine since.

If you cna get one at $4500 go for it, there is no reason why you should avoid the 4 cyl, they are still reliable (a bit underpowered though). Major service are every 100k, however you gotta service them regularly, eg 150k service. I think they use the same transmission as the v6's.
However do check theres nothing wrong with auto etc..(might be difficult in an auction)
