Hi,

Ive searched the forums and i couldnt find any answers pertaining to the first gens, is there a brake upgrade available for the first gens? I mean like twin pot calipers maybe off the tr/ts with abs? or am i making things up now?

thanks,

You're making things up.

The brake group buy listed part numbers for upgraded rotors, if you're interested.

dude why do you want big grabbers on your little car? really unless you got a TD05 sitting onto your engine you don't need something like twinpots.. it'd be way expensive plus for abs to work you'd need a computer to control it, aka your ecu unless abs has its own computer but i dunno if an aftermarket system would work well or not.... it'd be really exe though.

I had slotted DBA's put on mine with lucas pads and they grab like hell, the old brakes were trash compared. i got DBA slotted fronts and the rears just machined with lucas pads all round, i was thinking of braded lines but then again i dont really need it and i give my car a bit in the hills etc, if your worried about lockin it up, i've never locked my car up even when standing on them, i just almost flip, if you have a good tyre and brake combo locking em up shouldnt really be a worry, softer the tire the more its grips, aslong as your pads arn't solid mild steel and just fuse to your discs they shouldn't really lock easily, not saying i couldnt lock it if i was trying, not the dirt they can lock easy, to easy in fact but on the road i get heaps of control, its great.

Just go DBA slotted and get your rears replaced with dba standards or something, that'll give you better performance, really good with fading (havent had them fade yet when the old ones would've been completely gone)

EFI, a/c, p/s, k/e, t/b, p/m, CD, c/c

Fuel injected, Air con, power steer, keyless entry (should be alarm + central), tow bar (dont know why i put that in there), power mirrors (that dont seem to work), CD player and Cruise control.

Have to add 5spd to that also.

Nick,
theres nothing wrong with putting bigger brakes on your car, reducing stopping distance cant be a bad thing. No i dont lock the wheels on my car, and i didnt want to put ABS on my car, its just the TR's with ABS came with twin pot calipers. Also 1200 kilos of car isnt exactly a little car. My laser's a little car.

i agree that the quicker u stop the better.

Nick, the stock magna brakes are good if u want to increase power. they are not a neccessary upgrade. aussiefella wouldnt need to upgrade the brakes on his car cause he has a turbo, the stock brakes are enough to stock the car in time. (it helps having discs all round stock). of course u can upgrade the brakes weneva u want, but it seems as though u cant really get enough power out of the 1st gens to really need to have the brakes upgraded lol

my friend did that in his MX6... ended up totally sideways, flying through the gutter at the end of the street (was a T junction) at 90km/hr. all 3 best mates were in the car, it was a miracle it didnt roll
